It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the iconic couple, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (of “Twilight” fame). We all know that the pair are very private people and keep a lid on most of what goes on in their lives – which is probably for the best, especially as their once-loyal fan base has scattered in the aether. So it’s no real surprise that we haven’t heard much from them over the last few months. But that hasn’t stopped speculations and rumors from circulating about what happened between them – particularly regarding Stewart’s perceived “betrayal” of Pattinson (and his subsequent “heartbreak”). Here, we’ll run down the most recent developments.

Pattinson Settles With Robsten

One of the first major developments to break in the Robsten saga was the couple’s joint lawsuit, which was settled out of court in December 2017. The actress and the photographer had filed a lawsuit against the actor and director, stating that he stole her intellectual property, including ideas, “concepts and stories,” for his next project, “Cosmos.” She was seeking compensation as well as an injunction against further use of her likeness or intellectual property. According to reports, the parties settled on undisclosed terms and the legal drama was finally resolved.

Although they filed lawsuits against each other, the former lovers do maintain a cordial relationship. In fact, on Christmas Day 2017, Pattinson posted a photo on Instagram of him and Stewart, along with their children, picking up their wrapped gifts, with the couple exchanging a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Stewart’s Upcoming Solo Album

While the couple’s legal battles were churning, Stewart was secretly working on her first album. The ambitious project, which she says is “absolutely” inspired by her time with Pattinson, is set to drop in 2020. She is determined to showcase a new side of herself, away from the teen world she inhabited for so long. This won’t be your typical pop album, with bubblegum pop tracks. Instead, Stewart has collaborated with some of the biggest names in rock and roll, including Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch and the legendary producer, Timbaland. The singer teased fans with details of the collaborative process in an interview with Billboard:

“I can’t wait to show you guys what I’m working on. It’s different. It’s not typical,” she said. When asked if she felt like a “superstar” collaborating with Welch and Timbaland, Stewart replied: “Kind of. I feel like a kid in a candy store.”

With the solo album comes a world tour, which Stewart says she’s looking forward to doing. She told NME: “I’ve always wanted to go on tour. This is actually going to be an opportunity to do that. It’s been great working on the album, but I can’t wait to get out there and perform it.”

Pattinson’s New Love Interest

With all the attention that Stewart has been getting, particularly since the lawsuit was settled, it might be easy to forget that Pattinson is still in the spotlight thanks to his role in “Cosmos.” The film, which he also co-directed, stars him alongside Freya Moyle, Ben Mendez and Madeline Brewer. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January before premiering in theaters on August 10.

While Stewart is arguably the most recognizable face from her time in the spotlight, it’s not just because of her iconic “Twilight” days. Over the last couple of years, fans have started to see her in a different light. Even before the lawsuit, Stewart had established a reputation as a strong, independent woman, who had no interest in reviving her brief dalliance with fame. It was an image that she helped to perpetuate, with a series of high-profile, strong-willed ladies, including her co-stars in “Green Room,” Dixie Chicks drummer and fashion icon Candice Carpenter and social media influencer Hannah John-Kamen, cast as her friends.

But the industry never forgets and when “Cosmos” premiered, it became apparent that Stewart wasn’t just playing the role of the cool, independent woman, she truly is. So, what made the 37-year-old change her tune?

Reported Divorce Rumors

Another big blow to Stewart’s budding solo career came in the form of divorce rumors. It all started in February, when she was spotted wearing an engagement ring, which led many to believe that she had finally gotten over Pattinson. But it seems that the reports of their divorce were greatly exaggerated – at least according to Stewart. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said that the rumors had bothered her and that her “Twilight” colleagues, Jessica Chastain and Naomi Watts, had even confronted her about them.

Watts reportedly told Stewart that she did not believe that she and Pattinson were really over and wanted to “set the record straight.” While Chastain said that she didn’t want to talk about the rumors, she did say that she hoped Stewart and Pattinson would “work things out.” When asked what the couple’s situation was like, Stewart replied: “It’s really great, we’re very happy.”

The rumors clearly had an effect on Stewart’s work, as the singer took a considerable amount of time off from touring in support of her solo album due to “unavoidable personal circumstances.” But that is all they are – rumors. Although she isn’t commenting on her personal life or her relationship with Pattinson, Stewart did address the speculation head on in a 2017 interview with the New York Times:

“I’ve always been a really private person, even when I wasn’t performing,” she said. “I’ve had experiences in my life that I didn’t share with the world. I still don’t. It wouldn’t make sense for me to suddenly start doing that now, especially knowing the kind of impact it had on my family and friends. People who really cared about me are going to be really hurt if they think I’ve changed in any way. I’m still that same person. I’ll always be true to myself and myself only.”

The Reunion

After all these years, it’s safe to say that Stewart and Pattinson have managed to keep a lid on most of what happens in their personal lives. But that doesn’t mean that fans don’t want to know all about their relationship. In fact, the feeling is often the opposite. And that is what brings us to another big development in the Robsten saga.

On May 16, it was reported that Stewart and Pattinson would be reuniting for a special event in London in October. The one-of-a-kind event will be an “ambassador” program, hosted by the UK government, where Stewart will speak about her time in “Twilight” and the impact it has had on her life. The ambassador program encourages a more “personal and engaging” approach to public speaking, which Stewart says is exactly how she wants to approach the subject matter. She added: “I’ve been thinking about this a lot, especially since I’ve been working on the album. What I want to do is put a human face on ‘Twilight.’ ‘Cosmos’ is a really beautiful story and it’s had a profound impact on me. But that doesn’t mean that my story is any less complicated or interesting than anyone else’s. I just think it’s important to connect with our audience on a more personal level. It makes everything else easier.”

So, with all these updates, what is the latest with Stewart and Pattinson? It seems that they are still very much together and in fact, they’ve been spending a lot of time working on new music. While they have kept quiet about their private lives, perhaps due to the lingering effects of the lawsuit, it would appear that they are making a conscious effort to be more open about their relationship. But is all this really about Stewart wanting to put a human face on “Twilight” or is she looking to finally put the rumors to rest? We’ll have to wait and see.
