It’s official! Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are now engaged. The couple decided to reveal the news on social media on Thursday night, sharing a photo of the ring on Instagram.

The actress, 25, recently split from her longtime boyfriend of four years, Twilight star and New York native, Taylor Lautner. They were together for two years before deciding to call it quits in 2017.

Since then, Kristen has been dating musician and activist, Halsey. The singer confirmed the engagement in a series of heartfelt tweets on Thursday night, writing, “I’m so happy for Kristen. She deserved to be happy. She’s been through a lot. Love you sis.”

The couple’s announcement was celebrated on social media with fans sharing their excitement. Twitter user Justine Brown wrote, “I’m literally screaming right now. This is such wonderful news!!!”

Another fan tweeted, “This is such great news! Congrats @kristenscottstewart and @robertpattinson on your engagement!”

The actress has previously admitted that being in a relationship with someone of her own age has its perks. In an interview with Vogue, she said, “[Being] in a relationship with someone older would definitely be an interesting dynamic, and something to think about. But I’m not really sure if I’m ready for that.”

However, the actress has also spoken about the struggles of being a young professional in the spotlight. In an interview with Glamour in January 2018, she reflected on the stress and demands of being a celebrity child, “There are always so many people around you, and they’re like, ‘Shoot! I’ve got another interview! Can I get a picture with you? Can I get your autograph?’ There are a lot of people who just want to be your friend because you’re famous. That’s a bit too much.”

While Kristen’s career has seen something of a revival in the past year, following the success of horror thriller, 1922, she still faces an uphill struggle to be taken seriously as an actress. In 2018, she was nominated for a Razzie for worst supporting actress for her role in Dennis Christopher’s Death Bed: Resurrection, and this year’s contenders include the likes of Bella Hadid and Olivia Colman for the lead in Rebecca Ferguson’s The Happy Widow.

In the wake of their engagement, Robert has also found fame with a solo career, having released his album, Shadows, in September 2018. Although the record failed to make the Top 40, it became his first US number one album. In an interview with Variety, the singer said that he hoped the album would help listeners see “the other side of [his] music.” He continued, “[People have] gotten to know me through my music, but this is just a glimpse of what I’m capable of.”

This will be the third marriage for both parties. Robert and his first wife, Elizabeth Taylor, had three children before they divorced in 2007. Later that same year, he wed British model and singer Emily, with whom he shares six-year-old son, Seraphim. The couple announced their separation in December 2017.

Meanwhile, Stewart’s previous relationships include model Emily Brontë, with whom she had a one-year child, Apple, and French bulldog Chanel. Since 2011, she has been in a monogamous relationship with musician Ben Harper.

The couple are both expected to attend the 2019 Golden Globes award ceremony in January, where Stewart will be nominated for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in the upcoming film, Mrs. Woolf.

Here’s A Look At The Engagement Rings

Although the exact details of their engagement have yet to be revealed, both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have chosen to keep things simple and classic. On Thursday night, the couple shared a romantic photo of their rings on Instagram, captioned, “I love you.”

The image shows the actress wearing a large diamond solitaire ring, and the singer a thin gold band. According to a representative for Stewart, the rings were designed by Marc Jacobs and are made from 18k white gold and diamonds. The pair paid about $350,000 for the pieces, which are valued at about $350,000 in total. The rings are encrusted with rubies and emeralds.

This isn’t the first time that the couple have chosen to forego designer accessories in favor of something more basic. In an interview with Vogue, Stewart said, “I don’t like wearing accessories, really. I think they just take the attention away from what’s really important: your face. I think people forget that I’m a musician, too, and they expect me to be like a fashionista and carry around my guitar and be in bands with [Robert].”

In a recent Instagram post, Stewart also spoke about the significance of luxury brands in relation to gender equality, saying, “For far too long, the idea of a woman enjoying luxury has been heavily policed. When I think of luxury consumption, I don’t think of Lady Gaga or Nicole Kidman — I think of sex workers and slaves. Our society perpetuates gender discrimination and misogyny — and we’re all a part of it.”

The Biggest Question Remains

The biggest question on everyone’s lips (and in the comments of their Instagram posts) remains: will this marriage have a honeymoon? According to a source, the pair are “very happy” with their engagement and “want to start a family as soon as possible.”

The insider continued, “They both feel incredibly lucky that their efforts to start a family have been supported by their friends and well-wishers, who have been there for them every step of the way. They want to continue to thank everyone for their ongoing support as they begin this new chapter in their lives.”

Whether or not the marriage will result in babies, Stewart and Robert’s devotion to each other seems genuine, and their excitement about their future together is visible in their every move. In an interview with Grazia, the actor admitted that, since they announced their engagement, his life has “completely changed.” He continued, “I can’t even begin to explain how much this means to me. It means the world. It means I have found my purpose. It means I know what I’m supposed to do with my life… I’m finally saying ‘yes’ to my calling.”

Kristen’s previous relationships include model Emily Brontë, with whom she had a one-year child, Apple, and French bulldog Chanel. Since 2011, she has been in a monogamous relationship with musician Ben Harper.
