Actor Robert Pattinson will attend the 2015 Met Gala on May 4th, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced. The actor will be wearing a costume designed by Ralph Lauren.
Pattinson will be the second British royal to attend the annual black-tie fundraising gala, after Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, who graced the 2014 gala as Queen Elizabeth II. He is expected to make an appearance at the event before heading back to the U.K.
The Designer
Named one of Forbes’ most influential British celebrities, Ralph Lauren is one of the most well-known designers in the world. In 2014, Forbes classified Lauren as the second-most-powerful celebrity in the world, right after Michael Jordan.
Lauren began his design career in 1975, during the height of the iconic designer’s fame. Since then, his clientele has included some of the most prominent people in society, including Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, and more recently, Queen Elizabeth II. In 2014, Lauren was honored with the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to British fashion.
Costume Designer
It’s no secret that fashion plays a big role in supporting the arts, and the designers featured at the Met Gala are no exception. Ralph Lauren has collaborated with celebrities and royals for decades, so it’s not surprising that he would design a costume for him. Victoria Beckham also contributed to the design of the costume, as she has for many previous galas.
Who Is Going To Attend?
According to the museum, about 500 people will be in attendance at the gala this year. The guest list includes about 80 percent solo celebrities and 20 percent couples. Among those expected to attend are:
- Robert Pattinson
- Kate Middleton
- Cara Delevingne
- Sienna Miller
- Joe Anderson
- Toby Kebbell
- Oliver Parker
- Liv Tyler
- Dame Helen Mirren
- Shania Twain
There are only a few other details about Pattinson’s appearance at the Met Gala, including whether or not he will attend the after-party. More information is expected to be announced soon.
