With his recent breakup with longtime girlfriend, FKA Twigs, and subsequent engagement to fellow movie star, Emily Blunt, the world is now finally aware of the existence of Robert Pattinson. The British actor’s profile has been rising steadily since he first sparked our interest with his performance in the indie hit, The Rover, and continues to do so with each new film.
This year alone, he has appeared in blockbusters including The Great Gatsby, Wonderwall, and most recently, Woody Allen’s latest offering, A Rainy Day in New York. With such a stacked lineup of films, it’s no surprise that Pattinson has maintained popularity globally. Having amassed a considerable social media following, it’s clear that fans everywhere have taken a liking to this pint-sized heartthrob.
Career
Pattinson’s acting career began when he was just 14 years old, starring in the British miniseries, The Shadow Club. Since then, he has steadily worked his way up the ranks, appearing in major films, such as The King’s Speech and The Dark Knight Rises. Most recently, he starred in Steven Spielberg’s big-budgeted epic, The Great Gatsby, as well as the sci-fi blockbuster, The Martian. He also had a small role in The Dark Knight Rises as well as the Star Wars prequel, The Phantom Menace.
Pattinson began his modeling career at the age of 12, when he was cast in a British edition of Vogue. Since then, he has appeared in numerous magazine advertisements and even more campaigns for top fashion houses. He even made an appearance on the cover of Vogue Brazil in 2010.
Style
While most of our artists have a distinct style that we can associate with, Robert Pattinson’s style is somewhat of a mystery at this point. Some have speculated that he is a natural-born genius who can craft any look he desires, but that’s probably not true. Still, his uncanny ability to transform himself from one character to the other is perhaps the best indication that he is, in fact, a brilliant stylist.
Regardless, it’s clear that he has an eye for fashion. His Instagram profile is filled with countless pictures of himself in breathtaking gowns and tuxedos. With Emily Blunt as his girlfriend, one may wonder if he is searching for an elegant way to propose.
Signature Drink
One of the many interesting aspects of Robert Pattinson is his dedication to healthy eating. Like many other celebrities, he is very active on social media, documenting his workouts and healthy eating habits. He is a big proponent of the Paleo diet and has even collaborated with celebrity chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, on a cookbook called, The Healthy Eating Cookbook.
Pattinson is known to be a fan of tartines — small, crustless sandwiches — and often mutes dogs with gluten or wheat. Naturally, the question now is: what will be his go-to drink? Will he settle on wine or beer? Or perhaps, an exclusive cocktail? We’ll have to wait and see.
Fashion
Unlike most celebrities, Robert Pattinson has not shied away from the spotlight. He has always been comfortable in front of the camera and even more so since his recent breakup with FKA Twigs. Whether he’s posing for a photo or simply hanging out with his dogs, he makes it clear that he has no problems being in front of the camera. This self-assuredness has undoubtedly contributed to his popularity.
Still, it’s not just his willingness to be seen that makes him interesting. It’s his ability to transform himself into any character. As he so aptly put it in an interview with Grazia: “I like to experiment with my looks, trying on different personas. The most successful characters are those that the audience doesn’t immediately recognize. For example, I played the part of an air steward on The Dark Knight Rises, but the character had been in the making for several months before the film’s release. Even then, I felt like I had fooled people. Not because I look like someone else, but because they didn’t see me coming.
One can easily fall under the spell of Robert Pattinson’s whimsical charm and watchability. While we wait for his next project, which he has stated will be his last, let’s take a look at his movies.
The Rover (2013)
In the fall of 2012, the world was introduced to Robert Pattinson through his performance in The Rover, a British independent film directed by James Marsh. Starring alongside Anne Hathaway, Colm Feore, and Ben Whishaw, the drama was the second of two collaborations between director Marsh and writer Simon Beaufoy. After the box office disappointment of their 2011 film, Away We Go, Marsh was determined not to let his fans down with another misfire.
In The Rover, Pattinson plays Will, a socially awkward city boy who moves to the country to live with his Uncle Henry (played by Robert Duvall). Will’s plan is to save up enough money to rent a small apartment, so he can live a self-sufficient lifestyle and no longer depend on his overbearing and domineering mother (Hathaway).
The film follows Will as he settles into his new life, slowly opening up to the people around him and even experimenting with country living. The movie is very much a coming-of-age story, which centers on whether or not Will can break free from the bonds that have held him back all his life. While it wasn’t an immediate commercial success — it only earned $859,859 at the box office — The Rover was very well-received by critics and has gone on to gain a cult following.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Continuing our look at celebrity Instagrammers, it’s time to meet the man behind the handle. Belonging to one of the wealthiest families in America, George “Gatsby” Gatz has dedicated his life to parties and social climbing. His lavish lifestyle is documented on his Instagram profile, where he documents his many travels around the world and his expensive toys and gadgets.
His Instagram also serves as an outlet for his love for fashion, as he documents his many stylish pursuits. In particular, he is a big fan of designer, Chanel, frequently posting about their clothing line and collaborating with the fashion house on a collection of watches.
While his life may seem glamorous, George Gatsby’s personal issues serve as the ultimate downfall. The family patriarch is sick with worry as he awaits the return of his only son, Nick (played by Tobey Mcquewick), from Germany, where he recently graduated from university. Convinced that his son will not come back to America a failure, Gatsby wastes no time in gathering his family and friends around him, throwing a huge house party to celebrate Nick’s success.
The movie adapts F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic 1920s novel, The Great Gatsby, which follows the adventures of Nick as he seeks to succeed in the world of American high society. In creating his character, Tobey had to carefully consider the mannerisms and speech patterns of Scott Fitzgerald’s original character, Jay Gatsby.
Midnight In Paris (2011)
If you’ve never heard of Scott Fitzgerald, it’s probably because you’ve never had the pleasure of going to Paris. Midnight In Paris is a 2011 romantic comedy drama film that was loosely based on Fitzgerald’s experiences in the City of Lights. Directed by Woody Allen and co-starring Owen Wilson, it tells the story of Scott’s struggle to write the Great American novel.
Some sources claim that the film is one of the all-time best-selling DVDs, having sold over 4.3 million copies since its release. Whether or not this is true, it’s safe to say that Midnight In Paris is a film that has touched many lives.
