If you’re in the UK and looking for some new TV series to watch, then I would recommend you check out Rob Pattinson’s The Voyage. It is available to stream on Netflix now, and as the show’s tagline states, it is “an odyssey of epic proportions”.
The former “That 70s Show” star and “Twilight” actor has three sister ships (named after Alice, Buffy and Joss Whedon) on whales of a tale. The show premiered last month and tells the story of a modern day sea hero named Jack Rabbit who must solve puzzles and battle humongous creatures to save a community on a whaling expedition in the Pacific.
The premise of the show is pretty cool: an action-adventure series set in the future. It’s a mix of the classic adventure and sci-fi elements – kind of like “Lost Boat Trilogy” with a “Jurassic Park” twist. It features many creature talks (read my *definitive* list of the top 10 talks in TV history here), space travel, robots, machines and monsters that are more intimidating than any animal you’ve ever seen.
The series is an incredible combination of creatures, environments and actions, all done with practically revolutionary computer generated imagery (CGI). I was completely captivated from the very first scene with a sea lion attack, and found myself completely hooked for the entire run. I had to turn off the computer to come home at night and prepare for my next week’s work schedule.
The reason why I recommend this Show is because of the acting of its star Pattinson. I’ve seen a lot of action and adventure series in my day (mostly on Netflix) and there is no question that he is the best in the business. He is both fearless and intrepid, and does a masterful job of emotion and action matching. This is especially accentuated in the scene where he beats a giant octopus (shown at right), which is practically a masterclass in action acting.
I couldn’t speak more highly of the actors and actresses in the show, but what’s best about it is that the show is directed by Joss Whedon (also of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fame), and he brings such a vivid portrayal of a dangerous and enthralling world that you’ll be bordering on paranoid by the end.
If you haven’t seen “The Voyage” yet, you should probably look into it. It’s available to stream on Netflix now, and if you like action and adventure fantasy series, then I think you’ll enjoy it.
