For those of you who may be unfamiliar, Rob Pattinson is the actor who plays Edward Cullen in Twilight. Well, we may now find out what’s the latest with his career. Let’s dive in.
Twilight: The Movie
Yes, Rob’s had a pretty eventful journey since the first Twilight movie came out 16 years ago. After playing the reserved and somewhat shy main character in Twilight, he has gone on to act in a number of other movies, including The Boy Next Door and Remember Me. However, it’s been a while since Rob had a starring role in a movie. He was in Dark Shadows, then he did an unannounced movie with Victoria Beckham, and then he had a supporting role in a movie about the making of Harry Potter. So, it was pretty much a straight-to-DVD type of year for Rob.
The good news is that, since 2009, he’s starred in two movies that were released in theaters. First was the critically-acclaimed The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. It was the third movie in the Twilight series and was released in May 2011. Then, just recently, we got to experience the cinematic version of Rob’s long-awaited and very romantic reunion with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart. This past November 23, the third part in the Twilight Saga was released in theaters, and it became the fourth highest-grossing film of the year, so far.
Other Movies
Aside from the Twilight movies, Rob has had some pretty big breaks in between. He had a role in One Night in Rome alongside Keanu Reeves and he also acted in Peter Weir’s The Way Back. He’s currently filming Mike Newell’s Overlord, which is a World War II drama set in the South Pacific. This movie should be released in the next couple of years.
If you’re a fan of Twilight, you may have noticed that not all of the movies are exactly what you’d call ‘family-friendly’. For example, Eclipse is definitely not suitable for younger viewers, as it contains a fair amount of sexual tension and mature content. However, for those of you who’d like to enjoy the saga without any adult supervision, there’s always DVD piracy.
Personal Life
Unlike many celebrities, who keep their private lives a secret, Rob is very open about his personal life. He even tweeted a picture of himself with his ex-fiancee, Bella Swan (played by Kristen). He’s been in a number of successful relationships, including an eight-year affair with French model and actor Stella McCartney. The two had a daughter and a son before divorcing in 2009. Since then, he has been linked to a number of other high-profile women, including Katy Perry, Madonna, and the aforementioned Kristen.
Interestingly enough, Rob was originally set to play the bad guy in the Twilight series. He was supposed to be the cold and heartless vampire Carlisle, who is played by Michael Landon in the first movie. But, when Michael Landon succumbed to cancer, the role was recast with another actor. For some reason, Warner Bros. didn’t want to hire Rob for the part, but they did cast him in a minor role as a vampire named Francis. He appears in the first and second films, but his role is very small.
However, in the past few years, things seem to have changed. He now identifies as a feminist and promotes women’s rights. He even had a child’s drawing on his arm in his tweet with Kristen last year. So, he seems to be leading a balanced life, which is great! Hopefully, that means we’ll soon be seeing more of Rob in the future. Stay tuned.
