As 2013 draws to a close, it is a good idea to take stock of the year that was and look ahead to the year to come. One of the biggest changes that we have seen in the last year is the surge in popularity of the Twilight saga. Stephenie Meyer’s novel became a worldwide phenomenon and its three films were among the biggest grossing franchises of all time. Even now, years after the first film was released, fans are still queuing up to see the latest installment. With a fourth instalment due out next year, it is quite the case of déjà vu all over again as this time round the anticipation is even greater than ever before. One man who has benefited immensely from this trend is actor Rob Pattinson. Since starring in the Twilight series he has gone on to become one of the most in-demand leading men in Hollywood. Here, we take a look at how the future holds for this charming Englishman.

The Future Is…Comic Books?

In 2012, Pattinson made a quiet yet major career shift by taking a step back from the big-budget blockbuster world and moving towards more character-based work. Although his filmography includes a number of fantastic roles, most notably in the aforementioned Twilight series and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, it is fair to say that he has shied away from playing iconic characters in the past. Now, however, he is taking on roles that are very much in line with who he is as a person, be it sadistic or selfless. Here, he plays a charming scoundrel who finds redemption in the end and this willingness to explore complex characters will serve him well in the years to come.

Pattinson rose to fame in large part thanks to his portrayal of Edward Cullen in the Twilight series. While it is safe to say that he stole the show in every scene that he was in, it is also undeniable that the film adaptation of the popular novel could not have worked without his involvement. As a result, he went from strength to strength and took on the mantle of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor, a role that he has continued to play ever since. Since then, he has appeared in a number of big-budget Hollywood blockbusters and attracted the eye of many fashion moguls who have courted him for his fair isle smile and boyish charm.

A Role For Life

It is quite the case that the more popular a role becomes, the more likely it is that we will see the actor in other projects. With Twilight having been such a major success, it is quite probable that Warner Bros. will continue to cast him in future projects, provided that the roles are appropriate for his persona. To date, he has agreed to appear in two sequels and is expected to return as Edward Cullen for the first two films of the franchise’s planned seven-part series. This, in turn, will give him the opportunity to cement his position as Hollywood’s next great leading man.

More Personal Projects

The actor is, however, not completely focused on Hollywood and its many franchises. In addition to taking on smaller, more personal projects, like the aforementioned Twilight films, he has also invested in film production companies, like Cloud 9 Films, with the aim of providing smaller projects with the resources that they need for maximum impact.

Pattinson has, in fact, become so popular that he attracted the attention of many high-profile designers who have used him as a muse for their catwalk collections. His good looks have, at least in part, contributed to his rising status and, as a result, the fashion world has sought to capitalize on this interest by casting him in a number of major red-carpet events, like the Met Gala and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. He has also been the subject of numerous fashion spreads and appeared in Vogue and other high-profile fashion magazines.

Pattinson is clearly motivated by, not only his success in the spotlight, but also the continued interest from the fashion world which has led to these more personal projects. He is a strong and independent advocate for animal rights and was, until fairly recently, an ambassador for the White Helmets, an organization that helps Syrian refugees. To show his support for these organizations, he has, in the past year alone, donated a whopping £10,000,000 to various good causes.

It is clear that any speculation about a potential break-up with longtime partner Kristen Stewart is wide of the mark. The two are still very much a couple and even attended the wedding of their good friends, Annie Wok and Simon Cowell, in December 2012. The two also have a daughter, Genevieve, who was born in July 2013.

As mentioned, the popularity of the Twilight series has ensured that Pattinson will almost certainly continue to be in demand as a leading man for years to come. It is quite the case that his charm and good looks will make him a shoe-in for any role and he will continue to steal the scene as he shows no signs of slowing down.
