Rob Pattinson is set to become a dad for the second time when the actress and singer gave birth to their first child, a daughter, in April 2016. The one-time Hollywood royal is currently in Hollywood filming the third season of his popular TV series, The Flash, and was also recently seen presenting a Golden Globe to best actress nominee Melissa McCarthy at the film’s premiere in London.
Having already raised his daughter, Cosmo, with his late wife, Kate, the actor is no stranger to children and parenting. And it seems that his daughter’s newfound friend will also become a father for the first time when his bandmate Matthew Bellamy gives birth to his first child in May.
So, as these men head into fatherhood, let’s take a moment to examine how they will get along. Below, we’ll explore:
Their Ages
Although there’s nothing wrong with being young, there’s also nothing quite as embarrassing as showing your age. And if we’re talking about celebrity baby bumps, Rob and Lea’s daughter will be a toddler by the time they finally tie the knot.
At 41-years-old, the actor is still considered a baby in Hollywood. While he has proven himself over the years, he is not yet a seasoned adult. Nevertheless, he has already gained a lot of valuable parenting experience since becoming a father for the first time.
In contrast, Lea, who is 43-years-old, is a more experienced mother. Since her daughter was born in 2007, she has already been a mother to her own child and to Emma, the daughter of her late friend, the late Anna Wintour. She also has two sons, Sacha and Leonardo, from a previous relationship. So, while she may be a bit older than Rob, she is no stranger to parenthood.
Their Marriages
Another important factor to consider when analyzing the potential of any new couple is their marriage history. Just like any other facet of their lives, it will be interesting to see how Rob and Lea shape their union now that they’re in the thick of things.
Both have been married before. Rob, who is the great-grandson of Queen Victoria, tied the knot with Kate in 2007. Four years later, Lea wed the Italian designer, Flavio Malaguti. But their marriage, which produced a daughter, Chiara, in 2011, was annulled in 2014. A year later, they got engaged again and eventually married in August 2015.
While their family lives may be complicated, their celebrity status makes them somewhat untouchable. In other words, they can attract a massive audience regardless of what happens in their personal life.
Will They Stay Together?
If we’re talking about potential longevity, it’s crucial to examine the stability of a couple. Just like any other celebrity couple, Rob and Lea might not be able to stay together forever. But until they decide to call it quits, their loyal fans will continue to follow their adventures.
On the other hand, a devoted audience is exactly what any celebrity couple needs in order to be able to stay together. After all, if they can’t survive in Hollywood, where else can they go?
Their House
Even before they start a family, Rob and Lea have a house in Los Angeles. Built in 1896, it was previously owned by renowned architect, Howard Milstein. Over time, Milstein added a few extra rooms and turned it into a sprawling mansion. Today, it boasts an entertainment space that doubles as an exercise room, a game room, an art studio, and more!
Because of its unique history, it has been the home of some famous faces over the years. For example, in the 1970s, it was the residence of singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson. And in more modern times, it’s been the home of actors Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
Because it is located in one of Hollywood’s most prestigious and recognizable address, whether they live there or not, Rob and Lea will always be associated with luxury and fame.
However, as mentioned before, the house is not yet their permanent abode. They have been renting it out since 2014, and the reason for their departure is the same as their reason for marriage – family. Once their daughter starts school, they plan to move in with Kate and her husband, Chip.
The architecturally significant residence will continue to be a source of pride for the couple as they venture into fatherhood, and it will provide them with a connection to the past as well as a glimpse of the future.
Dating History
Although they’re newlywed, it seems like they’ve been together for a long time. In fact, they met while filming the movie, The Dark Knight Rises, in 2012.
Just like any other celebrity couple, Rob and Lea have been linked to some pretty famous people. While they were both initially interested in acting, it was the Welshman’s directorial debut, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, that put them on the map. The film, which stars Katherine Waterston and Zoë Kravitz, tells the story of a young woman’s quest for individuality in a world governed by authoritarianism.
The director, Edward Norton, had this to say about meeting Rob and Lea: “This is a story about the collision of artistic visions in one unique individual. And I think that’s why we connected with them as humans, because they’re both very unique individuals. And we see that in the movies that they’ve made: unique visions that they’ve each created and been a part of creating.”
Norton went on to praise Waterston and Kravitz’s performances, stating: “They both give fantastic performances and we’re really proud to have worked with them.” Indeed, many have noted that the film itself is pretty special, too – the script was nominated for a Golden Globe, as was Norton for best director.
Career
At this point, it’s important to examine both the actor’s and the singer’s professional paths. After all, they will occupy unique positions in terms of their roles as fathers and the duties that will devolve upon them.
For the former, he followed in the footsteps of his famous father, David, who starred in blockbusters such as Star Wars, The Untouchables, and Empire Strikes Back. And much like his father, he chose to play the protagonist in several of his films. But while David usually appears in the foreground, focusing intently upon the action, Rob plays the role of the cool, calculating, slightly unhinged genius. And in Insurgent, not even his own father can stand up to him.
Lea
When it comes to celebrity baby bumps, Lea is more likely to pop than to sit. Indeed, since her debut in Shine, the young star has been on the go, constantly creating memorable moments and attracting a devoted fan base.
In 2015, she received critical acclaim for her performance in Woody Allen’s Café Society, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Her character, Janie, evolves from a sheltered, naïve young woman, to a driven, independent career woman. And much like her character, Lea has also become more comfortable in her own skin.
In order to portray the free woman that she is, the actress defied traditional society’s views on what women should be – she doesn’t follow the fashion dictates, she doesn’t smile graciously for the camera, and she certainly doesn’t cook or clean. Instead, she embraced her power and refused to take no for an answer. So, essentially, this is a film about a woman who refuses to be defined by her relationships – not that we didn’t love her for it.
Also in 2015, Lea starred in the comedy, I Feel Pretty, which follows the ups and downs of five women as they navigate the challenges of dating, work, and motherhood. She plays one of the lead characters, Rita, a successful career woman who is determined to have it all. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in theaters on May 12, 2016.
