Rob & Katie are quite the celebrity couple. They were dubbed ‘The Most Popular’ on the planet recently after tying the knot in secret and making it global news. It was an intimate beach ceremony in front of their closest family and friends. Rob started his acting career in 2011 and skyrocketed to Hollywood stardom. He now stars in the highest-grossing films of all time, breaking several box office records. We were lucky enough to speak to Rob about his rise to fame, his wife, and their upcoming baby boy. Enjoy!
How Did You First Get Involved With Film?
I started acting in the theatre when I was little. My family and I moved around a lot, so eventually, I found ourselves in LA. My grandpa taught me how to pitch and how to act on camera, so I studied with him at the Actors’ Institute in Los Angeles. He helped me find my voice and he was a big influence in my life. After a few years in the theatre, I moved to New York to pursue film. There are definitely more opportunities in film. You move around so much more, getting to work with different people and learning new things. The pay’s great, too!
What Made You Decide To Get Married Amid Such Publicity?
We actually tied the knot in secret for about a year. We were engaged, but we didn’t tell anyone about the engagement. We wanted to keep it under the radar because we didn’t want it to become a circus. Once I was finished shooting the latest Twilight installment, we called everyone we knew and told them the good news. We didn’t want to ruin our surprise! After the wedding, we felt like we had a commitment to keep, so we moved in together.
How Will You Fare As A New Dad?
I’ve been in a lot of relationships in my life, and I’ve never been one to shy away from a challenge. As a father, I’m looking forward to this adventure and to helping my wife navigate this new stage of our lives. It’ll be new for both of us. It’s always good to have some help, especially when you’re a new parent. There are a lot of expectations and a lot of changes that come with parenthood, and I’m looking forward to being there for her through it all.
What Is The Most Popular Book, Movie, & TV Show Inspired By Your Life?
I would say my wedding day is the best-selling novel I’ve ever written. It’s been translated into many different languages and it’s been made into a movie. The movie is called “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and it’s one of the most popular movies of all time. It was inspired by my life and the story of how my wife and I met. The TV show “The Handmaid’s Tale” is also based on my life, but it’s from a different perspective. I’m actually the one who writes the lines in this show! It’s a great show and it has a lot of similarities to my own story.
What Is The Most Popular Theme To Your Work?
I would say that the theme I explore in my work is loneliness. It’s a big theme in our society and in my work as well. I don’t just explore it in my films, I deal with it head on. In my most recent film, “Believer”, I play a cult leader who is completely disconnected from the world. He has a lot of followers who feel the same way he does and want to live their lives to the fullest. The leader and his followers think they’re doing God’s work, but in reality, they’re just following a psychopath.
Is There A Part Of Your Work You’d Like To Shout-Outs To?
I would like to shout-out all the fans who’ve been following and supporting me throughout my entire career. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for all of you. There are a lot of people who believe in me and who support me, and I’m grateful for that. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.
Where Do You See Yourself In 10 Years’ Time?
I see myself in 10 years’ time still doing exactly what I’m doing now. I have a film coming out soon called “Beautiful and Damned”, which was inspired by the Roaring Twenties. It’s a time when men were men and women were strong and free. People were more accessible and less guarded than they are now. People were able to express their emotions, which led to a lot of great art and literature. It was an exciting time to live in and I see myself still engaged in that same spirit. I want to be a part of that and I hope to inspire people in the same way that the Roaring Twenties inspired me.
What Is The Most Popular Drink In Your Country?
I’m actually not sure if there’s any specific alcohol that we drink the most in my country. More and more people are drinking craft beers and wine, which I think is great. There’s a great variety now, so people can drink what they want. I think that’s great. I rarely drink beer, so I don’t have a lot of experience with that. But from what I’ve heard, people really love their craft beer in Thailand.
What Is The Funniest Or Most Enjoyable Meme/Thing You Had To Deal With?
I would say the most enjoyable meme or thing I had to deal with was when I was in high school and a lot of my friends convinced me to go on a drinking binge with them during finals week. It was a stressful time for me, especially since I had to study for exams, so I agreed to go with them. We went to this bar where they served these giant chocolate chip cookies and we just started eating them. One by one, we ate the whole box, which was definitely a bad idea because I had a lot of work to do. But it was a lot of fun! It’s a funny story, but it’s one that I like to think of when I’m stressed out about something. It doesn’t feel good to eat something that hasn’t been properly cooked. But I don’t regret a thing!
As for the funniest thing, it’s hard to pick just one. There are so many funny things that have happened to me or that I’ve witnessed. In my early 20s, I was working in catering and one of my clients was this old Italian man whose name I’ll never forget. Every day, he’d come in and have these great potato pancakes with tomato and garlic butter. He didn’t like onions or green peppers in his food, so he had a helper pick out all the veggies for him. One day, the helper told the old man that they were out of green peppers, so he asked me to go get some for him. It was about 25 degrees outside, and I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, so I went to the grocery store with a basket on my arm. When I got back, the old man took one look at me and started laughing. He grabbed my shorts and lifted them up, showing everyone what he was buying. I spent the rest of the day picking up trash and cleaning up the place, but it was all in good humor. It’s a funny story, but it’s one that I like to think about when I’m stressed out about something. It’s great to have clients who can appreciate your sense of humor.
If you had to recommend one book to your readers that would help them understand your life and work, what would it be?
I actually wrote a book with my collaborator Luke Van Horn, called “The Art Of Screenwriting”. It’s a comprehensive book that will teach people everything they need to know about writing a screenplay, from the basics to the industry terminology. It’s a book that everyone in the industry can use and refer to, and it’s also something that I’ve found myself rereading and referring back to. The best part is that it’s filled with great advice and real-life examples that I can use in my own work. I definitely recommend it.
