After the massive success of the ‘Twilight’ series, fans were eagerly anticipating the follow-up. What they got was not quite what they expected. ‘Burnt’ was a decent grossing movie, but it didn’t match the phenomenal success of the first film. Still, it was only a matter of time before Robert Pattinson was back in the spotlight.

The British actor seems to have adjusted pretty well to celebrity. He still acts, he’s still in good shape, and he’s even managed to squeeze in some adventurous travel. Now that the world knows who he is, more opportunities seem to be coming his way. With ‘Protagonista de Crepusculo’ (‘Proud Feminist’) premiering today in theaters, let’s take a look back at one of the greatest movie stars of our time.

Early Life

Robert William Pattinson was born on June 5, 1986 in London, England. He is the only child of renowned English actress Jane Birkin and musician Jim Pattinson. His godfather is artist and filmmaker Keith Haring. Pattinson’s parents met while filming ‘The Cook, The Thief, His Daughter and The Grand Tour’ in Italy in 1974. The movie, which also starred his mother, was a major success and won several international awards. Since then, the actress has appeared in a variety of films and TV shows.

The young Robert spent the first part of his life living with his parents in London. After that, he went to live with his maternal grandparents in Oxfordshire. It was while spending part of the year in Oxfordshire that he began taking an interest in acting. He would attend the local theater and watch films with his grandparents. It was here that he started taking private acting lessons from an older actor named Jeremy Paddick. Paddick, who has since passed away, is credited with helping Pattinson develop his craft. His acting teacher advised the teen to attend the London School of Economics and Political Science after finishing high school. Pattinson graduated from LSE with a degree in Economics and International Relations in 2008.

Professional Life

Pattinson made his acting debut in 2009 in the British crime film ‘Mortdecai’, which was based on the novel by Howard Jacobson. The next year, he appeared in ‘The Rover’, a movie directed by Shane Black. The following year he appeared in ‘Dredd’, which was also directed by Black. In 2011, he starred in the movie ‘Water’, which also starred Nicole Kidman and Rachel Weisz. It was one of the first big-budget movies to be filmed entirely in 3-D. The movie was a critical and commercial success and won numerous awards.

Pattinson wrapped up 2011 with a bang. Not only did he star in the final installment of the ‘Twilight’ saga, ‘Eclipse’, but he also reunited with ‘Water’ director Shane Black for ‘Iron Man 3′. The movie is one of the most anticipated releases of the year and is also being hailed as the start of a new Marvel movie franchise. Ironman is one of the most recognizable and popular superhero characters ever. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Ironman is practically synonymous with Tony Stark, the billionaire inventor played by Robert Pattinson. His performance in ‘Iron Man 3′ has already garnered him a lot of critical praise and has boosted his stock as an actor. It will be interesting to see if this newfound popularity leads to more movie roles.

2012 was a productive year for the English actor, with him landing major roles in two of the biggest movies of the year. One was the highly-anticipated ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, which saw him reprise his role as the billionaire playboy / superhero, Bruce Wayne. The second was ‘Oblivion’, the sequel to ‘The Last Jedi’, where he played BB-8, a droid who befriends the main character, Rey (Daisy Ridley).

Pattinson is set to star in two big-budget movies in 2017. One of them is ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, Woody Allen’s controversial story of an aging Hollywood star, played by the English actor, who has to deal with young Hollywood in the 1980s. The other is ‘The Batman’, a stand-alone Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. It is scheduled for release on June 25, 2019.

Personal Life

Having never been married, Pattinson has focused on his personal life and his interests outside of acting. He enjoys traveling, meeting new people, and being with family. He also loves to cook, which he demonstrated in 2013 when he released a cookbook with recipes inspired by his favorite films. He tries to stay active by going for walks, playing sports, and working out. The English actor enjoys a good glass of wine and has been known to sip champagne on occasion while on set. He’s even partnered with an olive oil company to promote olive oil and its health benefits. While his interests might not be related to acting, they serve as a pleasant distraction from the daily grind of making it as an actor. The only thing that could possibly pull his interest away from acting would be if he found true love. In 2007, he was linked to model and actress Camille Rowe, but they broke up after just one year. In 2011, he began dating model Kristen Stewart. The pair were constantly in the public eye and were dubbed “Rocking Stewarts” by fans. In 2015, however, the couple called it quits and went their separate ways. Stewart went on to date actors Evan Ross and James Marsden, while Pattinson began dating his ‘Twilight’ co-star, Bella Swan, the daughter of iconic actor, Richard “Dick” Harris. They were married in a lavish ceremony in March 2019. The newlyweds have chosen to keep their surname and thus far, it appears, will be staying together. Hopefully, this ‘Twilight’ inspired nuptial will boost their chances of having more children. In 2018, the London-born actor relocated to Los Angeles, where he continues to pursue his career.
