It’s been a while since we heard from Harry and Marnie. The super-couple from Brooklyn, New York, have been pretty quiet since their 2007 wedding, and we are still waiting for their second child. But since the premiere of the sequel to their famous wedding tale, we have been wondering: Has this relationship healed, or is it still going strong?
Since Harry and Marnie’s wedding day, which was chronicled in the 2008 documentary One Wedding and a Funeral, the couple has been busy living their lives and having children. Harry’s former co-star from the TV show Cheers, Shelley Duvall, also gave birth to a son via a surrogate mother. The couple also helped raise the grandchildren of one of their former costars, Paul Newman. Lastly, Marnie, who is a makeup artist, worked on the hit TV series Smash, which follows the Broadway production of the same name. So it’s been a very eventful few years for the couple.
The Last Year
Despite all of this activity, we haven’t heard from Harry and Marnie in a while. The last time we heard from the couple was at the beginning of this year, when they both starred in a PSA for the animal rights group The Humane Society of the United States. The couple also both starred and co-produced an indie film called The Peanut Butter Falcon. In the PSA, the actor talked about how they used to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the time as kids. He went on to say that he and Marnie were excited to partner with The Humane Society to bring awareness to the issue of factory farming. He concluded the PSA by saying, “If kids are eating chicken nuggets and fish sticks, we need to be raising awareness about how animals are treated in factory farms.”
The actress-turned-filmmaker then followed up with a short documentary titled The Peanut Butter Falcon, which features Harry and Marnie alongside some of their friends and family. The couple talks about their lives and how they are working together to improve the lives of animals.
Marriage, Babies, And A Quiet Life
Since their wedding, Harry and Marnie have been fairly quiet about their life together. They have not given any interviews or appeared on any talk shows. They also rarely give their relationship status as being “married,” choosing instead to call themselves a “professional couple” or a “supercouple.” When they do talk about their relationship, it is usually in regards to their shared passion for animals and their desire to make the world a better place.
The animal rights group PETA named Harry and Marnie the “most romantic animals” in 2018 because of their work to protect animals and promote veganism. PETA wrote, “Harry and Marnie’s sweet romance is enough reason to give them our hearts—and our best wishes for a long and happy life together.”
The New York Daily News dubbed Harry and Marnie “The vegan couple of the century” because of their animal activism. The couple’s dedication to veganism extends beyond their work in advocacy. They also don’t eat any animal products or by-products, which they consider unethical to do so. As a result, they often talk about the benefits of being vegan and the importance of veganism in today’s society.
Harry and Marnie have also been active in regards to donating to charitable causes through their work with Elle and Abundance Labs, a non-profit that provides employment resources for underprivileged women and girls. In 2017, the couple donated $500,000 to the group. They also co-founded a charitable organization called The Couple’s Foundation, which supports animal welfare, educational programs for children, and climate change solutions. Additionally, the couple has partnered with the fashion company Patagonia to protect wildlife and promote environmental sustainability. In July 2019, they became ambassadors and spokespeople for Patagonia.
The last time we heard from Harry and Marnie, they said that they were working hard to improve the lives of animals. Considering all of their previous activities, we could probably expect to hear from them at some point this year. It is still early, but so far, so good.
