Early Beginnings

Pattinson was born in London in December 1989 – the youngest of three children. His mother, Elizabeth, is a former model and jewelry designer, while his father, James, is an archaeologist and historian. A family friend introduced the young Colin to Shakespeare’s works during a reading session, and he was soon hooked. “It’s something I was really bad at as a kid – I wasn’t a particularly fast reader and I struggled with the attention span,” he told Wonderland magazine in 2014. “But when I got to the part of the play that was about the four great British classical male warriors, I just sat there in awe – I couldn’t move.”

While Pattinson was raised in a cultured environment, he admits to being more of an adrenaline junkie than a bookworm. “[Reading] was kind of a guilty pleasure, I suppose,” he told Wonderland. “I’d get my nose in a book, but then I’d get distracted by all kinds of crazy stuff – concerts, parties, or whatever.” As a teenager, Pattinson became enamored of skateboarding and rock climbing, pursuing both sports professionally in 2015. The year he turned 20, he made the difficult decision to quit drinking alcohol and taking drugs – a move which undoubtedly aided his rise to stardom.

How Does He Keep It Cool?

In the years since his retirement from drugs and alcohol, it’s been extraordinary to see the ups and downs of Pattinson’s career. From being dropped by Disney to landing the iconic role of the young James Bond, the British actor has worked hard to establish himself as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. While others his age might be enjoying life in the fast lane, Pattinson has opted for a more measured approach to life and careers. In February 2016, he released a statement on his verified Instagram account, explaining that he wanted to “step back, relax, and reflect” after a hectic year which included the international premiere of James Bond 007 – the fifty-second installment in the venerable 007 series. “I feel blessed and lucky to have had the opportunity to play such an iconic character,” he wrote. “The last year has been incredible – I’ve grown as a person, I’ve learned a lot, and I feel like I’m in a place where I can continue to grow and develop as an actor.”

The following month, Paramount Pictures announced that it had signed Pattinson to star in the upcoming Gal Gadot vehicle King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, a project which will see the actor take on the iconic King Arthur persona. The film, set for release in February 2017, will be Gadot’s acting debut.

What Is He Really Into?

Aside from acting and fashion, Colin is also a major art fan. In September 2014, he told Wonderland that he planned to open an exhibition in London in the near future which would include original pieces by some of his favorite artists including Hockney, Warhol, and Rothko. Wedding Plans

The fashion-savvy bachelor has been keeping busy of late, setting the wedding date for October 2017 and tying the knot with Emily Brown in a £20,000 ($26,400) church ceremony. The venue, an 18th century mansion in London’s Westminster parish, will feature a “rustic yet elegant” rustic marquee, seating for up to 150 guests, and a heated outdoor pool.

The happy couple are already parents to a son named Charlie, born in May 2016.

Is He A Fashion Role Model?

It’s fair to say that Colin has inspired a fashion renaissance among millennials. In February 2015, Business of Fashion published a piece titled “Why Colin Will Become the Face of the Next Generation of Fashion”, noting that the British actor had “single-handedly raised the profile of men’s fashion among millennials”. The article goes on to quote a Forrester research report which states that 59% of respondents chose Colin as their go-to style icon, compared to 19% for Kim Kardashian and 18% for Miley Cyrus.

What’s more is that this fashion renaissance appears to be here to stay. In September 2015, fashion blog Clotheshinemyblockchain posted an interview with designer Tory Burch, in which they discuss how Colin’s stylish choices have influenced their own fashion choices. “I have a feeling that the young people of today might grow up more inclined to like classic gentlemen’s shirts and blazers,” Burch said. “So we’re very, very fortunate that Colin came along when he did, because quite honestly I don’t think we would have made the same choices that he made when we were his age. So it is truly a gift to be able to see someone who is inherently stylish give such great advice about what to dress like.”
