In October, fans of the popular British comedy series, ‘Fleabag’ were treated to the exciting news that its star, Olivia Colman, will be portraying iconic British Agent, James Bond in a forthcoming film adaptation. The producers of ‘Fleabag’ had announced earlier that year that they were looking for a young actress to take on the role of Bond’s successor, Holly Golightly. After Olivia’s stunning performance in the comedy series, it was only a matter of time before her talent was recognized and she was offered the role.
It has now been confirmed that Peter Capaldi will be taking on the role of 007 in ‘Eternity Roof’, the 24th installment of the long-running Bond film franchise. The versatile actor, who is best known for playing the foul-mouthed Scotsman, Malcolm Tucker, in comedies like ‘A Bigger Splash’ and ‘The League of Gentlemen’, will be seen next in the upcoming Netflix series ‘The Kominsky Method’.
A Rising Star In The Entertainment Industry
‘Eternity Roof’ will see Peter Capaldi continue his ascent up the ranks of the entertainment industry. At the age of 40, the actor is currently one of the most in-demand performers in British television. Since 2015, he has appeared as the lead in series like ‘Hollyoaks’, ‘Kinda’ and ‘Midsomer Murders’ and is set to play a huge role in the upcoming Netflix series, ‘The Witcher’.
While ‘Eternity Roof’ will be Capaldi’s first appearance as James Bond, he has already been in two previous Bond film adaptations: Timothy Dalton in ‘The Living Daylights’ and Daniel Craig in ‘Spectre’. In between filming on the big-screen versions of ‘The Living Daylights’ and ‘Spectre’, Capaldi starred in ‘Deep Water’, a psychological thriller directed by Jon Amiel. The film was filmed on location in Cornwall and primarily used practical effects instead of digital effects to create the cinematic illusion of an underwater world. This will be the fourth and final film in the current series of James Bond adventures, after ‘Spectre’, ‘The Shape of Water’ and ‘No Time to Die’.
When it comes to playing James Bond, it’s fair to say that Peter Capaldi is living the life. The actor currently has four previous films as James Bond behind him, as well as numerous appearances in both TV and cinema. He started off as an unknown but undaunted teenager, and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the UK’s most charming and versatile performers.
A Veteran Actor With A Ton Of Experience
Peter Capaldi has been acting for nearly 30 years, having made his acting debut in the 1988 TV movie, ‘Fatal Attraction’. Since then, he has gone on to appear in many British television series, including ‘Spooks’, ‘Agatha Christie’s ‘Witness for the Prosecution’, ‘Life On Mars?’ and ‘Black Sails’. He has also had supporting roles in several big-budget Hollywood films, with his most recent role being that of Dr. John Watson in the latest ‘Sherlock Holmes’ film. As well as taking on the starring role of James Bond, Peter Capaldi also has a recurring role as Malcolm Tucker in the long-running comedy series, ‘Fleabag’.
Along with his acting career, Peter Capaldi has achieved worldwide fame as a singer. Best known for his work with the band, ‘mcr’, he has released two solo albums ‘Out There’ (2008) and ‘Dress To Impress’ (2011), which were both Top Ten hits in the UK. His music has featured in films including ‘Sex and the City 2′, and ‘Death On The Nile’. As well as being a singer, Peter Capaldi is also a talented musician and has composed music for several TV shows and films. He has also written songs for other artists, including ‘mcr’ and ‘Kurt von Goetzinger’.
An Actor Who Is Relatable
‘Eternity Roof’ will see Peter Capaldi continue to demonstrate his versatility as an actor, playing two very different characters. On one hand, you have the suave and sophisticated James Bond; a character not typically associated with children’s TV star, Scott Baillie. On the other, you have the much more comedic Malcolm Tucker. While they may appear to be characters designed for comic relief, it is clear that Peter Capaldi brings a darker and more menacing approach to both roles. This is in keeping with his established image as one of the UK’s most talented and versatile actors.
It has been well-established that both Daniel Craig and Tom Hardy will be returning as James Bond and his archenemy, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, respectively, for the upcoming ‘No Time To Die’. While we don’t know too much about Hardy’s incarnation of the character yet, we do know that Craig will be continuing in the role of James Bond for another adventure. This will be the 16th film in the series, making it the longest-running film franchise in history. It is expected that ‘No Time to Die’ will be the concluding chapter in a trilogy, following ‘Spectre’ and ‘The Shape of Water’.
While we wait for more information on these upcoming blockbuster movies, it is important to remember that James Bond will be back on the big screen in 2018. Daniel Craig will be starring in the twenty-third Bond film, ‘Vantage Point’, which will be released in April of next year.
