The highly anticipated new movie Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix will be released nationwide on October 4th 2019, but already there’s been a lot of speculation about who will portray the iconic Joker. With so much talk surrounding this role there’s been a few actors who’ve been linked to play the part, including Robert Pattinson.
While promoting his upcoming movie Damages, Robert Pattinson was asked by ET about taking on the role as Joker and he replied: “I don’t know…I’m always looking for ways to impress people… I might do it… It’d be a lot of fun. I’ve always wanted to play the Joker. I think…no, I’m sure…it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m not going to lie. It’s a fascinating character. I think it would be interesting to play somebody who’s been described as the ‘anti-hero’…I don’t know if that’s the case, but it’s certainly somebody who does bad things…I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun…and there’s also the whole clown thing which I know and love…I mean, I wouldn’t have to learn to sew, you know, which I love doing, but I also wouldn’t have to get sick of doing makeup and costumes…so, yeah, it’d be pretty cool if they asked me.”
Robert Pattinson: A Good Actor To Play The Joker
Although the movie isn’t set to come out until October 4th 2019, fans of the DC Comics character Joker already have an idea of who they would like to see play the part. As ET points out, the Joker is described as “a man who revels in chaos, destruction and dramatic flair” and Robert Pattinson seems like a good fit for the role.
Based on the animated series Batman: The Animated Series, the Batman franchise has always been associated with dark and dramatic storylines and with a history of actors playing the character. From Michael Keaton in the 1989 blockbuster The Dark Knight to Aaron Anderson in the 2016 feature Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the part has always been played by actors who were able to capture the essence of the character.
With a long career behind him that includes critical acclaim and major awards, Robert Pattinson seems like the perfect choice to play the Joker. According to ET, “In addition to having the experience of playing Batman’s greatest enemy, Pattinson is also familiar with the dark and twisted world of madness.”
While it’s still too early to tell whether or not Pattinson will end up playing Joker, the actor seems like a good choice based on what we know so far. And who knows, maybe Warner Bros. and DC Comics will surprise us and ask him to play the part after all. With so much buzz surrounding the upcoming movie and all the potential for controversy the role of Joker represents for the actor, playing the part could potentially be a career-defining moment for him.
