A self-made millionaire and serial entrepreneur, Michael Pattinson Barratt founded and runs several companies that provide services to the luxury goods industry. He is the founder of Thatcham Trust, which funds research and programs for the protection of consumers’ personal data. In 2014, he was awarded an OBE for services to business and enterprise in the UK.

Biography

Michael Pattinson Barratt was born in 1967 and grew up in Surrey, England. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics and a master’s degree in business administration from the INSEAD. He has also been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales since 1994.

After completing his education, Michael Pattinson Barratt worked for a brief period for JP Morgan in London and then set up his own company, E-Business Solutions. In 1998, he established an e-commerce store, BarrattIndustries, which at the time was the largest in the UK.

Career

Barratt started his career in business in 1989, when he co-founded The Barratt Group, a private equity group which he later sold to Advent International in 2004. Prior to this, he worked for two years at JP Morgan in London, specializing in international bond transactions. After completing his time at JP Morgan, he founded and became CEO of e-Business Solutions, an e-commerce store. e-Business Solutions grew organically to become the UK’s largest e-commerce business.

He is currently the founder and managing director of several other companies in addition to e-Business Solutions. These include HUBER+SUHARDT, an independent luxury goods holding company; Nava Consulting, a boutique consultancy that offers business strategy and execution services to the luxury goods industry; and THATCHAM TRUST, a philanthropic trust he founded in 2011 to protect consumer data and provide research into identity fraud and credit card security.

Philanthropy

Barratt’s philanthropy is focused on identity fraud and credit card security. He is the founder of Thatcham Trust, which funds research and programs for the protection of consumers’ personal data, and the trustee of The Michael Pattinson Barratt Charitable Foundation, which supports a wide range of charities, predominantly in the UK.

Barratt supports a number of causes through his work with The Michael Pattinson Barratt Charitable Foundation. These include card security education, economic and social justice, environment, and animal welfare.
