You may know that photographers are responsible for capturing the special moments in our lives and making them memorable. But did you know that they often work long hours, travel internationally, and put their lives on hold as much as possible in order to achieve the perfect shot? Let’s take a quick look at the work of one of the most talented and sought-after photographers in the world, Lindsay Pattinson!
A Veteran Of The Industry
Lindsay began her professional career in 2008 after winning several awards and accolades for her college projects. She quickly established herself as one of the leading names in the industry, being named as one of the “Top 30 Under 30 Innovators in Media & Marketing” by Forbes in 2017. Prior to that, she worked as an intern for famed photographer Steve McCurry, having gained valuable experience and making important contacts in the industry.
What’s more, she’s continuously published articles in prestigious magazines such as Wired and Marie Claire, putting her expertise and thought-leadership to work for others and contributing to the industry’s ever-growing body of knowledge.
A Grand Tour Of Europe
This year, Lindsay traveled to Europe for the first time and took a trip that was both educational and inspirational. She visited countries like Italy, France, and Germany, where she encountered distinct fashion, architecture, and culinary styles. In addition, she had the opportunity to meet and work with many influential people in the industry, including photographers Steve McCurry and Marcus Wainwright.
McCurry, who has worked with renowned designers like Dior and Chanel, met Lindsay during her visit to Italy and had this to say about her: “She’s incredibly creative and driven, and I’ve always appreciated her unique eye. We’ve worked together closely over the last year and have collaborated on some exciting projects, which have pushed the boundaries of what is possible in photography. She is a real talent and professional whom any employer would be fortunate to have.”
A Stunning Portrait Collection
While in Europe, Lindsay took the opportunity to meet with clients and work on various projects. One of the most interesting was a corporate headshot series for Kerry Hair, an international hair care company. Kerry Hair commissioned the series and wanted to use Lindsay’s unique eye and creativity to showcase their brand identity and key executives.
Lindsay worked with the Hair Marketing Manager, Lilly Du, to come up with the idea for the series, which ultimately became a collection of striking portraits. According to Du, “Since our clients come from all over the world, we wanted to represent a global aspect of their business. We were looking for someone who can capture not just the hair industry, but the culture surrounding it.”
Du went on to say that the series made their clients feel “more comfortable sharing personal details” and that “[t]hese images are going to help highlight who we are as a company, as well as give our customers a glimpse of what we can offer.”
More Than Meets The Eye
Aside from headshots, Lindsay did some editorial work for an Italian design magazine as well – including a stunning cover and several interior spreads. One of her most exciting assignments was an interview with designer Martina McCarthy that was published in the prestigious Italian magazine, Domus. In the interview, Martina discusses her design process and how she brings her own sense of style to each collection.
According to the editors at Domus, McCarthy is “one of the most influential designers of our time, and it was a privilege to be able to interview her. We were particularly fascinated by Martina’s approach to style, which is both unique and inspiring.”
An Ingenious Use Of Impressions
The designer behind Martina McCarthy had this to say about her: “[Martina] is someone who always wants to push the boundaries of what is possible, and that is why she is one of the most creative designers of our time. When we began working together, we wanted to find a way to showcase [Martina’s] incredible talent. So, we came up with the idea of using impressions […], a medium in which we could experiment and see what would happen. We were keen to find a way to combine painting, photography, and design, and, as it turns out, impressions is the perfect fit.”
Lindsay had this to say about her work with Martina: “It was an incredible experience, as I’ve often found with working with large brands. They have such huge expectations and goals for their businesses, but at the same time, they are very open to new ideas. This coupled with their incredible talent and creativity makes for an incredibly stimulating environment to be in. Plus, it’s always interesting to discover new ways to present information, particularly when it comes to marketing and advertising.”
Dior And Chanel
Another interesting assignment for Lindsay was the Sage Bionaire collection for Dior. This collection consisted of portraits of sage bionaire heads done in Sage’s signature shade of blue. The photographer worked with the Product Design Director of Dior to come up with the idea for the series and went on to say that it was a “great learning experience” and that she hopes to do more work for the French luxury goods brand in the future.
An Unforgettable Event
Last but not least, let’s not forget about the Royal Wedding. This year’s big event was something to behold, and photographers from all over the world had an opportunity to showcase their skills and create lasting memories. The whole event was a real celebration of British culture, with a multicultural selection of brides, grooms, and guests. We couldn’t cover the whole event so we decided to focus on one of the most iconic moments – when Queen Elizabeth II turned towards the assembled guests and said, “Ladies and gentlemen…” That’s all she said but it was enough. The guests stood up and roared, “Long live the Queen!”
For the last four years, the global headshot community has been abuzz about Lindsay Pattinson. Since the birth of her daughter Natalie in 2016, Lindsay has been working tirelessly to maintain her momentum and continue to grow her business. Now, with another baby on the way, she’s taking some time off and enjoying life with her family.
