While we can’t confirm or deny the rumors, it wouldn’t be a Hollywood romance if there wasn’t plenty of speculation about the budding relationship between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The pair have been heavily linked to each other since they worked together on the Twilight film series, and it seems they can’t spend a quiet moment without sparking rumors. Does Stewart truly have feelings for Pattinson? What do they think of each other? We explore here all the possible scenarios.
The Whole Team: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart & Victoria Beckham
There’s no denying that the Twilight film series has been a commercial and critical success. The films, which follow the adventures of a vampire, Bella, and her relationship with Edward, a werewolf, have topped box office charts around the world and been consistently popular in countries where the series is available on DVD. Not only that, but it seems the films have inspired a whole host of copycats and inspired fans of all ages to want to be a part of the vampire craze.
Part of the films’ appeal is undoubtedly down to the array of A-list stars that appear in them. The trio of Edward, Bella, and Jacob, the werewolf who becomes her mate in the third film, Twilight, is headlined by the stunning presence of Robert Pattinson. The actor, who shot to fame as the charming but slightly awkward vampire James in Let Me In, displays an emotional range that many viewers find quite endearing. James’ character is based on Pattinson’s real-life friend and roommate, Adam, who was portrayed by Ben Schnetzer in the film; a friendship that blossomed into a professional one as the duo collaborated on the indie comedy, The Rover.
The director and co-writer of Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke, spoke to us about bringing the friendship of Edward, Bella, and Jacob to the big screen in the following video:
“It started as a love letter to my best friend, who is now my husband,” she said of the series in 2012. “And then it just kind of grew and grew. So there’s definitely a love letter in there that people are connecting with. But I wouldn’t say that it’s specifically romantic love.”
The question of whether or not the films are a love letter to each other’s best friend is a common one, and it seems Hardwicke is not alone in her thinking. Last year, actor/director Pattinson was quoted as saying:
“I would say that it’s an ode to friendship,” he said during a 2012 interview with the Huffington Post. “And it’s sort of a celebration of loyalty and companionship. Which I think is a beautiful thing.”
While the films may not be a love letter to each other’s best friend, it’s clear that Pattinson, Stewart, and Hardwicke have a special bond. Not only have they worked together on some incredible projects, but they all share a common admiration for each other’s work. When asked about their collaboration, the three actors have all praised each other’s acting talent and shown a willingness to work with each other in the future. As Hardwicke put it:
“She is just the most exceptional human being,” the director said of Stewart. “I don’t know if she’s aware of that yet or not, but she’s just an exceptional person. And her work, I think, is just exceptional as well. I would love to work with her again. And I think she would love to work with me again as well.”
The mutual admiration is certainly there to be seen. Just look at these two fantastic interviews that they have both done for various publications:
Robert Pattinson On Kristen Stewart
The first of these is with Vanity Fair, in which Stewart profiles her longtime friend and collaborator. The two-part interview covers a wide range of topics, from Stewart’s early years to her friendship with Robert Pattinson to their shared passion for fashion:
“I don’t think of myself as a feminist, but I do think that we live in a world where women can be brilliant at many things and can hold their own against men,” Stewart said, praising the strength of her friend’s character. “And, you know, she’s never been afraid to show the world what she’s got. And she’s always been confident in who she is, which is amazing.”
Pattinson seems to agree, adding: “I don’t think there’s any question that she’s one of the most talented actresses around. And I think she’s incredibly fierce and strong-willed, and I think those are all extremely appealing qualities in a woman. I mean, she’s the most amazingly talented person I know, and I think she’s done a hell of a lot of good in the world. So I don’t think there’s any question that whoever she’s with now will be doing good work.”
The Two Most Important Things
The following is from an interview that Vanity Fair published in 2016, in which Stewart and Pattinson discuss life after the Twilight franchise:
“I think the most important thing is just trying to be happy being yourself and not trying to fit into some idealistic version of someone else’s life,” Stewart said. “You know, even if you find the person you love, you have to remember that that can change. And it’s really, really easy to compromise. Life is too short not to be happy with who you are and what you have, you know? So I think that’s kind of the message behind the whole thing. Just make sure you’re okay with who you are and be confident in what you have, because you never know how long it’s going to last.”
Pattinson seemed to echo this sentiment, adding: “I think a lot about relationships and what they mean and whether or not they’re meant to be, you know? And I think the biggest misconception is that you believe that if something is meant to be it will always work out. You know, you can’t control what other people think or feel or if they love you or hate you. You can only control your own actions and what you put out there. You can’t control whether or not people like you or love you, so you may as well just be yourself and do what you want.”
The two share a similar perspective on life, love, and the important of living in the present. Their outlook is epitomized in their fashion choices; both have a keen eye for modern yet classic styles and seem to prefer items that are easy to dress up or down. In a world where so many millennials are worried about their appearance, you can bet that Stewart and Pattinson are trying to lead by example.
One Of The Most Desirable Women
While Stewart and Pattinson may not have found true love, their chemistry and apparent admiration for each other’s work have led to a whole host of romantic suggestions and rumors. On numerous occasions, the two have been linked to some of Hollywood’s most desirable women. In 2014, Stewart was rumored to be in a relationship with rapper Future, while Pattinson was linked to Hollywood star Emily Blunt. The latter would later confirm that these rumors were true and the two were dating. They also collaborated on the 2016 film, My Afternoons with Emily, about a woman’s search for personal space after enduring a rough patch in her marriage. It seems that their close friendship has not gone unnoticed, as Stewart has a whole wardrobe of designer suits to prove it.
What Do They Think Of Edward?
While we may not know for sure what is going on behind the scenes of the Twilight films, it is clear that the main stars of the franchise have become something of an item. This is most clearly demonstrated by the fact that while Stewart and Pattinson were reluctant to discuss their relationship in depth, they did agree that they had gotten “bromance” right. When asked about Edward’s character in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2012, Stewart said:
“I think it’s really important to find commonalities, and it’s really easy to find ones between us and Edward,” she said. “I think what we have in common is that we both really admire and like his work. And I think it’s really funny how alike the two of us are and how much we have in common with this character.”
Pattinson seems to agree, adding: “Yeah, it’s interesting how similar we are, really, you know? I think it makes you realize that, you know, it’s not like he’s a character from a movie or something. You know, he’s actually a person, and he’s a really cool person, too. I mean, he’s not like a character that you would see in a movie. He’s a real person.”
