Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are currently enjoying a well-deserved break from the spotlight after their gorgeous appearance at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards this past January. The stunning actress and the actor were on hand to collect an award on Robert’s behalf for his portrayal of the late fashion designer, Gianni Versace in the hit movie, ‘The Talented Mr. Pattinson’.
The couple were first spotted together at the 2014 Golden Globes, where they were both nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. Since then, they’ve been inseparable and regularly appear as a glamorous couple on the red carpet.
Rumours of their wedding intensified in March 2015 when the couple were photographed with matching golden bands on their fingers. The image was accompanied by the hashtags ‘#weddingjune’ and ‘#engagementring.’
But it was after their appearance at the 2015 Golden Globes that the media began speculating about more than just their engagement. Since then, the pair have remained relatively quiet about their future plans. But with a love for luxurious gestures, it wouldn’t be surprising if they decided to add another glitzy landmark to their collection.
A Diamond For Daisy
The couple’s affection for luxurious gestures was on full display at last year’s Golden Globe Awards when they presented an award together. While Robert was presenting for his role in ‘The Martian’, Kristen was spotted wearing a dazzling diamond-encrusted dress. The stunning design featured a deep-V neckline, slender straps, and intricate beading along the bodice. The plunging neckline and sweetheart neckline of the dress are thought to be a nod to Audrey Hepburn’s iconic ‘Dressing Up For Dinner’ look from the 1954 classic, ‘Sabrina’.
The dress drew comparisons to another iconic Hepburn moment from the same movie – her iconic ‘grand tour’ ensemble from ‘Gucci Movie’ in which she travels around the world in fashion. While the actress never personally designed a dress for the role, she certainly influenced fashion in the ‘80s and ‘90s. And her timeless elegance, grace, and sophistication continue to inspire people around the world.
A Diamond For Meghan
It would seem that Kristen’s dress wasn’t the only item of jewellery worn by the actress that night. Several other celebrities were also seen wearing diamond-encrusted items, making the expensive gems the ‘it’ accessory this year at the Golden Globes. While none of the other attendees were identified, it’s possible that they were also wearing diamonds. As well as presenting an award, Robert was also seen wearing a diamond ring on his right hand during the ceremony.
In April this year, it was announced that Daisy Mayers had been named the new face of Chanel. The 29-year-old model will replace the iconic Audrey Hepburn, who died in April 2015, in the role. At the time of the announcement, it was revealed that Mayers had been chosen because she “bares a resemblance to Hepburn and embodies her elegance and charisma”. The designer described their new face as “a masterpiece” and “a treasure”. It would appear that the face of Chanel is also a diamond.
The Birth Of A Trend
This year’s Golden Globe Awards were hailed as one of the most glamorous events of the year, not only because of the stunning gowns and luxurious accessories worn by the famous attendees, but also because of the incredible attention to detail and creative staging. But it wasn’t just the glitz and glamour on display that made the event memorable; the trending topics and fashion statements made it an important moment in Hollywood’s recent history. Here, we take a look back at the most talked about moments and items from the historic 2017 Golden Globe Awards.
Daisy Mayers
One of the most talked about moments was Daisy Mayers’ incredible Chanel ensemble. The model wore a beaded gown with black, white, and yellow flowers printed on the fabric. The dress featured a plunging neckline, bandeau top, empire waist, and a deep cutout in the back. The gown was accessorized with a large diamond encrusted flower, matching drop earrings, and a matching necklace. Mayers’ look was an outstanding representation of the glamour and luxury brand Chanel.
Amber Rose
Amber Rose’s performance in the drama, ‘The Diary of a Mad Man’ was deemed so powerful that she won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. Rose played Amber, an aspiring singer-songwriter who is discovered by a music producer (Christopher Walken) and becomes obsessed with fashion. The actress sported a white gown with red trim and a gold metallic skirt. The striking dress drew inspiration from the French fashion designer, Christian Dior.
Jared Leto
During the Golden Globes, Jared Leto wore a black tuxedo, complete with tails, and a top hat. The actor, who won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for his portrayal of John Lennon in ‘The Beatles: Eight Days A Week’, wore an outfit inspired by the late singer’s distinct sense of style.
A Diamond For Charlize
Charlize Theron’s powerful portrayal of designer, Karl Lagerfeld, in the film, ‘Mia Madre’ earned the 49-year-old actress a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. The costume, which she wore for the first half of the film, consisted of a black and white striped dress with a high collar, tight fitting trousers, and matching knee-high boots. Theron’s look was a striking contrast to the classic Chanel style that she reprised for the film’s trailer.
A Diamond For Elle
Elle MacLeman, who plays the lead role of Marianne in the film adaptation of Richard Wagner’s ‘The Perfect Marriage’, won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. The German-born Wagnerian singer and composer, whose work includes the opera, ‘Tannhäuser’, was one of the most influential composers of the 19th century and is considered a pioneer in the field of music and theatre. Although he did not personally design her outfit, Marianne’s look was inspired by a theme from Wagner’s famous ‘Ring Cycle’, ‘The Valkyrie’.
A Diamond For Kristen
It was an exciting night for the ‘Twilight’ star when she collected her fourth Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of a suicidal woman coming to terms with her past in the 2015 film, ‘Clouds Of Sils Maria’. The stunning dress, worn by the 32-year-old actress, featured a plunging neckline, a slim belt, and long, draping sleeves. Kristen’s look, which she designed herself, was an incredible display of her talent and design influence.
A Diamond For More
It wouldn’t be a celebration of diamonds if we didn’t mention the other famous gems that were worn throughout the evening. Among them, we found a stunning ruby and diamond ring, another brilliant cut diamond, a diamond-studded snake bracelet, and a diamond-encrusted pistol.
The celebration of diamonds was so prevalent at this year’s Golden Globes that it even earned its own section in the exhibition room of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. There, attendees were given the opportunity to rub elbows with some of Hollywood’s most famous faces while perusing an array of extravagant diamond pieces. The exhibition features a selection of iconic diamonds, including the Graff Ruby and Diamond, the De Beers Millennium, the Graff Diamond, and the Hope Diamond. And if that wasn’t enough, other celebrities were spotted wearing yet more diamonds during the evening.
The Red Carpet Was Staged
This year’s Golden Globe Awards were staged – but that doesn’t mean that the events themselves weren’t real. The elaborate production, which was directed by Martin Scorsese and featured famous faces from both fiction and non-fiction, was an incredible feat of creative direction and technical wizardry. But it wasn’t just the sets and costumes that were crafted with attention to detail; so, too, were the outfits and accessories worn by the famous attendees.
