There are a lot of questions about Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s relationship these days. With so much talk of marriage, you’d think they’ve been dating for years and the ‘Will They or Won’t They’ drama would be the least of their fans’ concerns. But that’s not the case at all. In fact, they’ve been secretly dating for only four months, which would make them one of the most recent celebrity couples to walk down the aisle.
The announcement came as a complete surprise, especially since Kristen has been so open about her disdain for marriage. In a recent Rolling Stone magazine interview, she expressed her desire to focus on her acting career and “do what [she] wants to do”. When asked about her upcoming nuptials to actor/director/writer/musician Robert Pattinson, she responded with an emphatic, “No.”
It was only four months ago that they were spotted holding hands and gazing into each other’s eyes at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, they’ve been inseparable, traveling the world together as Robert has continued shooting the upcoming film, The Rum Diary. Over the past month, fans have been able to get a glimpse of the romance in the few photos that have filtered through from the pair’s travels. Most recently, they were spotted dining together at a Madrid restaurant on March 19th, suggesting that they’re planning on tying the knot in the coming months.
An Unlikely Partnership
It would be easy to dismiss the relationship between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as just a fleeting fling. After all, they’re both world-famous celebrities and have a combined following of millions. The odds of one of them genuinely seeing the other as a long-term committed partner seem slim. But, as it turns out, that wasn’t at all the case. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
Robert first got involved with Kristen when she was just 17 years old, having spotted her walking her dog in London. Impressed by her confidence and poise, he approached her and asked if she’d like to meet for a walk. From there, their odd but passionate affair blossomed. As she grew more comfortable with the idea of dating a celebrity, she began to accept his offers to meet up for lunch and dinner, and eventually moved into his London apartment. Their relationship was such a breath of fresh air for Kristen, who’d been burned by previous romantic entanglements. And as she’d started to see more of Robert in his role as an admirer and friend rather than just a celebrity, she grew even more attracted to him. They finally decided to take the plunge and were married in a small private ceremony in an English country-house in May, 2015. Since then, they’ve been a popular choice for celebrity weddings, gracing the big day with their presence as the couple makes its grand entrance. It’s clear that Robert’s career didn’t stand in the way of their love for each other and, in fact, it only served to enhance it. While he was traveling the world for work, she was waiting for him at home, diligently pursuing her career as an actress and keeping up with the household chores that come with being a newlywed.
Why They Chose Each Other
What initially drew Kristen and Robert to one another was their shared love for art and literature. Before they even started dating, they were already discussing major artistic influences, pondering over Nietzsche and the works of William Shakespeare. Their conversations typically revolved around ideas, concepts, and theories rather than people and their superficial differences, which they both appreciated. This, in turn, helped foster an intellectual connection and appreciation for one another’s work. It also helped them recognize their mutual strengths and weaknesses. For example, Kristen is extremely driven and focused, while Robert is the exact opposite. She’s a true workhorse and can become easily distracted by her many responsibilities and upcoming projects. He appreciates her talent and works hard to ensure that she receives the best possible training, but struggles with being a supportive husband and fully committed father. Together, their differences work in tandem, creating an environment where each can grow and learn from the other.
A Fond Farewell
While their time together has only just begun, it’s been an eventful four months for Robert and Kristen. Since their wedding day, they’ve been busy planning their nuptials, which will take place, most probably, in the summer of 2016. They’ve been holding regular meetings with their wedding planners and have been compiling an invaluable ‘wedding to-do’ list. They’ve been making many personal adjustments to fit their new status as husband and wife and are looking forward to the next stage of their lives. As with all relationships, there will be challenges and disagreements but, for now, they’re enjoying this newfound partnership and are determined to take it as far as they can.
