Actress and model Kristen Stewart has given birth to a baby girl. The 29-year-old gave birth to the child, Scarlett Elizabeth Stewart, at a Los Angeles hospital on December 18. Her representative says Stewart and her husband, actor/director/musician Robert Pattinson, are both doing “excellently” and are “thrilled to have their family grow by one.” Little Scarlett was born weighing 7 lbs., 3 oz. and measuring 19 inches. She was born a year after her brother, Robert Pattinson, Jr., who was born in December 2009. The couple began dating in 2007 and got married in April 2012. The parents-to-be already have a son named Otis from a previous relationship.
The Scottish-born Stewart began her career as a teenager and caught the eye of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who invited her to participate in the 2012 New York City Ballet’s annual performance, The Nutcracker, as Clara. The magazine’s senior editor Grace Coddington wrote in a statement: “We’re absolutely over the moon for her [Stewart] and so happy that she made the right choice.” In 2010, she was named the new face of Burberry, and in 2012 she was honored with a Women in Film Crystal Award for Best Actress for her role in the film, On the Road. In the summer of 2013, she will join the cast of the Broadway musical, My Fair Lady, playing a variety of roles including Eliza Doolittle.
Growing Pains
In December 2006, Stewart’s mother, Elleen, passed away after a battle with leukemia. Following the tragedy, Stewart decided to become a full-time mom and dedicated herself to taking care of her son and daughter. In May 2007, she gave birth to a son, Robert Pattinson, Jr. Then in April 2012, three years later, Stewart gave birth to a girl. She has since used her fame and fortune to create a stable and nurturing environment for her family. In 2015, she opened a $10-million children’s clothing line, Little Roots, to provide beautiful, long-lasting garments for boys and girls.
A Beautiful Soul
The late mother-of-pearl was born and raised in the UK where she began modeling at the age of 14. After moving to New York City at the age of 24, she quickly became one of the city’s most sought-after models. In the 70s, she attended acting school and then made her film debut in The Stud (1977) before landing the role of Jean in the cult classic, Performance (1980). In the following years, Kaye would rise to fame for her portrayal of the late Diana, Princess of Wales. She was named British actress of the year in 1982. In 2004, Kaye was awarded the BAFTA Fellowship for her contribution to British arts. Her most recent projects include the upcoming biopic, On Wings: The Life of Dame Margaret Powell and a cameo in the upcoming Netflix series, Sex Education.
Style Icon
Dame Margaret Powell, known as the “Mother of Mini-Skirts,” started her career in the fashion industry in the 1920s. She later became an influential fashion stylist who worked with some of the biggest names in the industry during her 40-year career. Among her most memorable outfits are the white fur trimmed velvet dress and cape she wore at Buckingham Palace in 1936, and the red dress she wore to Harry Winston’s ballroom in 1939. She was most recently featured in the Netflix documentary, Madam X, and now at the age of 101, continues to enjoy life in retirement.
A Role Model
In her role in the upcoming movie, On Wings, she will be portraying the flamboyant and talented Lady Florence White, a grande dame of the English social scene who became famous for her extravagant parties and tight-knit circle of friends. The film is due for release in 2020.
Stewart’s younger sibling, Robert, is an award-winning actor best known for playing Ronnie Vickers in the Sex and the City movies and series, and then taking on the role of Scott Fitzsimons in the 2017 drama, The Light of the Mountain.
Proving That Genes Don’t Matter
Stewart is also an activist and supports equality and social justice causes. In 2018, she and her husband became the first same-sex couple to adopt a baby from China. The couple, who already have a young son, were motivated to adopt a child in part due to the Trump administration’s restrictions on immigrants, especially from China. That same year, she spoke at the United Nations about the importance of gender equality and about how much her family has benefited from being a part of the LGBTQ community.
A Sister’s Supportive Bond
In 2005, Kristen’s twin sister, Grace, became the first person in their family to wed. The actress walked down the aisle in a stunning white dress that she had designed herself and was later joined by her father who wore a suit. The wedding party included a number of celebrity guests, including Bruce Springsteen and his wife, Nancy. The couple has since announced that they are expecting their first child in June 2020. Grace and her new husband, Matt Johnson, a writer and producer, currently live in New York City.
Keeping It Classy
In April 2019, a month after the birth of her and Pattinson’s first child, Stormy, the actress tweeted a photo of herself in an ethereal lace dress with a caption that read, “My new dress was inspired by the night sky.” The caption went on to say that the dress was a “cosmic dance” between the two of them. While the dress was a nod to the night’s sky, the accompanying hashtag, #CosmicDance, referred to the fact it was two women, not one, who’d inspired its design.
Pattinson, who worked with the British fashion designer Alice Temperley on his first wife’s, Tempe’s, burial dress, also showed off his fashion chops when he wore a suit inspired by that same design during a photocall with the press in April 2019. He’s also been known to sport bow ties and floral prints, which he sometimes teams with solid colors for a pop of color.
A Role Model For Modern Times
The couple’s daughter, Isla Grace, was born in 2006 and like her mother, is an advocate for social justice and equality. In 2018, she became the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of a national newspaper, The Irish Times, when she posed in a swimsuit for the publication. The article centered on her gender transition and discussed the challenges she faces as a young person in 2018. The 21-year-old is a student at Durham University in the UK and spends time between classes participating in research and giving lectures at a nearby university.
As a mother, Stewart shows how to be a devoted and connected parent and partner. She keeps a steady pace despite juggling motherhood with her thriving career and activism. Whether she’s modeling elegant dresses or walking down the aisles of a supermarket, dressed in boots and jeans, she exudes style and confidence.
