What do you get when you mix a celebrity wedding with a fair isle white wedding and the king of punk meets the queen of rock n’ roll? A royal wedding, of course!
On Saturday, June 18, 2019, pop icons Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart got hitched in the most talked about wedding ever. And it’s not hard to understand why – not only did they put on an incredible show, but there were a lot of fun facts we learned about the couple along the way.
They’re Not Wedding Numbskitters
Although we’re used to seeing celebrities splashed across tabloids as famous wedding “numbskutters”, it turns out that Robert and Kristen aren’t trying to hide the fact that they’re married from the world. In fact, the couple made it a point to engage with their audience right from the beginning of their wedding day. When asked if she wanted to be married to her best friend for the rest of her life, Stewart replied: “Yes, absolutely. I love him more than anything in the world, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him.” And if that weren’t enough, she went on to add: “Anyone who suggests that we’re not actually a perfect fit, or that we should wait, is just trying to ruin our special day.”
The message seems to be: “We’re not gonna hide anything from you. This is the real us.” And we love them for it.
The Monarchy Is Back!
It was only a matter of time before the question of whether or not to let a woman become queen arose. After all, when it comes to celebrity weddings, it’s always the women who have to settle for the bridesmaid role. And yet, on Saturday, June 18, 2019, the men in the British royal family got to finally lay down their chivalry and allow a woman to take the throne.
According to reports, when the 90-year-old Queen Elizabeth II gave away her only son Prince Andrew, she reportedly said: “I couldn’t bear to see my darling boy grow up and marry someone I didn’t approve of.” After which, Andrew’s brothers Prince Charles and Prince Harry stepped forward to give their sister-in-law Kathryn, Duchess of Grafton, the chance to walk down the aisle.
And she didn’t let them down. As Huffington Post UK pointed out, when Stewart walked down the aisle and said “I do” for the second time, it was met with a resounding “Aww” from the audience and a roar from the British press. One guest tweeted: “That was such a beautiful moment. Not that anyone will actually notice.” True enough!
Tabloids Are Still Rediclipping
Although some publications decided to follow the trend and change their entire layout for the wedding day, others decided to keep things simple and put the focus on the photos of the day. Which reminds us: Just because a story is “legendary” or “infamous” doesn’t mean that it’s not still being reported on. Take the 2019 King’s and Queen’s wedding for example. While most outlets decided to switch over to a tabloid format, The Sun put the focus on the couple’s big day and ran an entire spread on the wedding. The paper’s decision to run the wedding in full didn’t seem to go down well with fans of the couple who took to Twitter to complain. One user wrote: “Honestly, the Sun ruined my favourite movie of all time by running an entire page on the Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson wedding during the coronavirus pandemic.” And another commented: “I feel so sorry for anyone who liked Kristen Stewart’s movieography before this point. It’s been reduced to a single paragraph in the Sun.”
It seems that although some may have gotten over the coronavirus pandemic, they aren’t quite over the news that is often scandalous and/or inflammatory in nature. And that’s a real shame, because not all news is bad news. In some cases, people find that out through terrible experience, in others, it’s through a shocking revelation, and in yet others, it’s during an important celebration.
In the case of the King’s and Queen’s big day, it was the perfect example of the latter. While we’d all hoped that the public had moved on from obsessing over the couple’s previous escapades, it seems that they haven’t. And that’s a real pity, because not all bad news is scandalous. There are lots of fun things to tell about the royals during this time of year, and we should be encouraging people to celebrate the good instead of focusing on the scandalous.
Robert Pattinson’s Hair Extension Is Worth A Fortune
It wasn’t just the tabloids that put the focus on Robert Pattinson’s hair on Saturday, June 18, 2019. While he was walking down the aisle for his second wedding to Kristen Stewart, one of the biggest stories was the large amount of hair that the “Twilight” actor had to have attached to his forehead. The Hollywood Reporter wrote: “His dress shirt collar was even stained with what looked like blond hair.” And it wasn’t just the media either – fans had also started a Twitter account in Pattinson’s name, @RealRobertPattinson, to obsess over the moment.
So what is this “hair extension” that everyone is talking about? Essentially, it’s a technique where a person’s hair is attached to a cap via a hair extension, giving the illusion of longer locks. Think of it like a full-head of curls but sleeker, and you’ll understand what we mean.
This is the kind of thing that can make or break a wedding. If the bride’s hairdo isn’t done right, it can ruin the ceremony. It’s a painstaking process, which means it isn’t something that you can DIY if you don’t have the patience to go through it step by step. Hair extensions are a splurge, but they can be worth it if you’re willing to take the time to make sure that everything is perfect.
They Like To Keep Things “Classic”
It wasn’t just the hair that was a talking point on Saturday, June 18, 2019 – it was the whole look and feel of the wedding. From the bride’s choice of floral crowns to the classic black-and-white colour scheme, it was easy to see that the couple were aiming to keep things as “classic” as possible. And why not? The coronavirus pandemic was still fresh in everyone’s minds, and they wanted to ensure that their wedding day was as stress-free as possible. Which is probably why the bride chose to walk down the aisle in a classic polka dot dress. Not that everyone is able to keep things classic all the time. As we’ve seen, weddings can be a source of great stress as well as joy. But, in this case, it seemed that the couple were determined to keep things simple.
They’re Not Afraid To Show Off Their Engagement Ring
One of the things that made the 2019 wedding so special was that it was the first time that the couple were showing off their engagement ring. Up until now, we’d only seen Stewart wear a simple band on her right hand, which she removed during her ceremony to show off the diamond. So it wasn’t just the “Aww” that greeted her at the end of the wedding – it was the audience’s reaction to the engagement ring. When Stewart removed the band, the crowd went wild, giving the engagement ring a standing ovation. In an interview with People, she said that she chose to have a simple ceremony since it was the first time that she and Pattinson were showing off their commitment to one another: “I wanted to have a simple ceremony with just my family and closest friends. It’s something we’ve been thinking about doing for a long time, so I’m really happy that we got to finally do it.”
The lovebirds also used the opportunity to remind everyone that they are, indeed, an “official duet” and to celebrate the success of their collaboration. When asked about their upcoming songs, Stewart replied: “I’ll be singing ‘Some Nights,’” referencing their Grammy-nominated collaboration with Demi Lovato. “It’s one of my favourite songs, and I think it’s a great fit for me and [Pattinson].”
