Robert Pattinson is one of the most recognizable faces in the world today. The former “It” girl has been famous since she was 15 years old and since then has graced the big and small screens with her charismatic beauty and acting skills. Most recently, she was photographed kissing a man (who has since denied the tryst) and now she’s posing as a kid’s actor. If you didn’t know any better, you might think she’s grown up.
The man in question is 26 years her senior, John Maguire. A successful photographer, he’s known for portraiture and commercial shoots. In 2014, he was even recognized by the American Association of Advertising Agencies for his contribution to the field (which he modestly describes as “a hobby”).
So, why the sudden interest in taking pictures of children? In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Maguire explains that he’s been having a hard time finding professional models who aren’t already in the spotlight. For the past couple of years, he’s been traveling to Amsterdam to meet with child models. After shooting and training with them, he heads back to the States, where his work has been appearing in galleries and publications worldwide.
“I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the future, if I’ll keep going or not,” he told Vanity Fair. “I want to do this as long as I can. I really believe it can be a form of therapy for me.”
Sobering Up Before A Scene
To prepare for a role, the 26-year-old model/actress gets up at 4:30 a.m. to get her workout in before filming starts. After filming, she’ll work out again before going to sleep. During interviews, she has to field (and enjoy) random questions about her personal life. It’s clear that being an actor is hard work, but it’s also rewarding. In 2018, she was nominated for a GLAAD award in the category of “Coming Out Champion” for her role in “Bojack Horseman.”
When asked if she gets nervous before big projects, she responds, “I always get a little bit nervous before a big project. I think it’s good to be nervous, it means you’re alive and working hard at something.”
Attention To Detail
Not only does Robert have to prepare for her acting role, but she also has to prepare for her appearance on film. Even before the camera rolls, she begins the arduous task of getting herself prepped. When filming, she’ll wear makeup, hair and wardrobe changes as required by the scene.
To maintain her flawless looks, she must keep her hair and makeup done by professionals. Since she was a teenager, she’s been working with the same makeup artist (Herbert Nienhueser) on her film projects. They’ve collaborated on everything from her character’s eyes to her general facial appearance, and Nienhueser has been with her from the start.
In some cases, she’ll have to take several days off to keep up with the demands of her film schedule. In 2018, she made headlines when she decided to break her engagement and wedding date with the French photographer because she wanted to focus on her acting career. The two-time engaged actress had previously postponed their wedding three times (most recently, in November 2017).
The Self-Care Aspects
Being a working actor can be demanding both on and off the set. Aside from the rigorous schedule and the physical demands of acting, she has to make time for self-care. This means getting her hair, nails, and skin taken care of by professionals. It also means making time for workouts, eating healthy foods, and getting some sleep.
When asked about the self-care routine she follows, she responds, “I always try to take care of myself the best I can. I like getting my nails done and trying different ways to take care of my hair. It’s important to make time for yourself because you can’t be at your best if you don’t give yourself the time to recover and recharge.”
Mature As She Wants To Be
If she’s getting all of this attention for being a beautiful young woman, it’s probably because she wants to stay that way. In an effort to stay in shape, she makes a point of attending as many premieres and award shows as she can. She’s also a big supporter of the National Eating Disorder Association, which provides support and information for those who suffer from eating disorders. She even has an annual foundation named after her that partners with the organization to provide resources for those in need.
In 2019, Forbes ranked her as the second most powerful celebrity chef (after Martha Stewart) based on her annual revenue and the value of her brand. Stewart was ranked first and chef José Andrés came in at number three. In February 2019, Forbes announced that she was the highest-paid celebrity chef in the world, with an annual income of $16.8 million.
Where Does She See Herself In 5 Years?
It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where she sees herself in five years, but she does say that she wants to continue to develop as an actress and remain working. While she hasn’t set any particular goals, she has a vision of herself as an older, more established actress. In order to get there, she has to continue to work hard.
“In five years, I see myself as being much more established. Having more roles and getting more opportunities. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to a point where I can say I’m satisfied with my career, but I’m definitely proud of what I’ve accomplished so far,” she says. “I want to continue to grow as an actress and gain more recognition for my work. That’s my ultimate goal.”
She’s not the only one who sees herself as an established actress. In April 2019, it was announced that Jessica Chastain would play Zola in the upcoming film adaptation of The Kindred. The role will be Chastain’s biggest yet, and it will mark the first time she’s played a lead in a major motion picture. (You may also know that she recently portrayed Melanie Griffith in the Ocean’s 8 film.)
The role marks a big step for Chastain, as well as for the film. According to Variety, Zola is a “free spirited young woman” who “challenges societal norms and her family’s legacy of political and social conservatism.” The film is expected to be released in April 2021, with Chastain starring alongside Guy Pearce and Janet McTeer.
Is She A Future Chef?
With her background in acting, it’s not such a coincidence that she got the call to act in a movie about chef’s. It’s a natural progression for someone who has spent so much time in the kitchen. In 2006, she got the opportunity to train under some of the best chefs in the world in an effort to develop her skills. Since then, she’s been pursuing her acting career while occasionally getting involved in projects that have a culinary theme. (You may know that she’s worked with famous chefs including Gordon Ramsay, who taught her how to cook Scottish haggis; and Thomas Keller, whose restaurant The French Laundry she had the opportunity to cook at.)
So, while it’s difficult to predict what the future may hold for Robert, we know that she’s dedicated to her craft and won’t stop until she’s reached her goals. She continues to work hard and is confident that she’ll be able to maintain a successful career for many years to come.
