I don’t know about you guys, but I’m always looking for ways to improve my style. I mean, let’s be honest, we’ve all seen Kate Beckinsale’s style evolution over the years, from plain Jane to something more glamorous, and she’s always been one of my style icons. Plus, who wouldn’t like to look like Kate Beckinsale? Even if she is a little bit of a bossy b*tch.

So, when I saw that Kate Beckinsale was coming to New York City to promote her new movie, I knew that I had to get my hands on a ticket. Especially since it was going to be such a fun film to watch – yes, I admit it – I was pretty much dying to see Kate Beckinsale and Robert Pattinson on screen together again. It had been way too long since we’d last seen them in The Hundredth Panther. And let’s be honest, even though Kate Beckinsale is one of the most stunning women we’ve ever seen, she’s never been known for her acting skills. The last time I’d seen her on screen was in The Golden Boat. Which is a damn shame, because she was actually pretty good in that.

Anyway, enough about me – let’s get back to the matter at hand, which is Kate Beckinsale and Robert Pattinson. You might know that Kate Beckinsale is one of the most popular actresses of this generation, and one of the most in-demand celebrities in general. (If you don’t, you really should look it up – it’s pretty much common knowledge at this point.) And, as I’ve established, I’m a huge fan of Kate Beckinsale’s style, so it should come as no surprise that I followed her on social media platforms like Instagram when she started dating Robert Pattinson. (Side note: Can you believe that this is now her second marriage? Her first marriage ended in divorce, and she’s hardly ever seen as a single woman. Crazy, right?)

So, when I saw that they were going to be in New York City together while promoting The Girlfriend Experience, my heart skipped a beat. And when I saw Kate Beckinsale and Robert Pattinson together in real life, my heart stopped. (It was like seeing two of the most famous stars in the world, right in front of me.) But it wasn’t just about the stunning looks – it was about the style. (And let’s face it, I’m not the only one who noticed.)

After dating for a while, Kate Beckinsale and Robert Pattinson got married. And guess what? They kept on keeping on, and haven’t looked back since. Even though Kate Beckinsale’s style has changed a bit over the years, she still often credits her husband with helping her to discover her own style, and maintaining an amazing style himself. So, it was definitely an honor to see them once again, and even moreso to see Kate Beckinsale’s style evolution.

And then there was the matter of the movie itself. While I wasn’t sure what to expect, I knew that it was going to be packed with style. And you know what? It totally was! While there were some darker moments, the overall feel of the movie was pretty glam-and-glorious. And that’s thanks, in part, to the incredible wardrobe that Kelly Simpkins, the costume designer for The Girlfriend Experience, put together for Kate Beckinsale. (I know, I can’t breathe either.)

I mean, if you’ve ever seen Sex And The City, you know that fashion is key to the show. And while there were certainly some amazing clothes in The Girlfriend Experience, the overall feel was a lot more mature and sophisticated than anything that I’d seen before on S&C. (Although there were some really cool fashion moments, too. Like Miranda’s pink dress with the black and white print, or Mr. Big’s psychedelic orange jumpsuit.)

Style Evolution

There’s no question that Kate Beckinsale’s style has changed a lot over the years. But, in a way, it’s always been the same, evolving as she’s gone from character to character. It’s fascinating to see how much her style has evolved from the 1950s to the present day.

Here are just a few of the styles that Kate Beckinsale has worn over the years.

Plain Jane

Let’s start with something simple. As I’ve established, I’m a huge fan of Kate Beckinsale’s style. So, it should come as no surprise that I’ve always been drawn to her plain, unadorned looks. I mean, the woman is a walking style encyclopedia – she can wear anything and look amazing. And let’s be honest, she’s never been one to shy away from a good basic, classic look. (Which is why I was so happy to see her wearing off-white, cream, and burgundy stripes in The Overnight Collection, and looking equally amazing in a simple black dress as in an embellished maxi-dress.)

I was also really drawn to Kate Beckinsale’s style in the Plain Jane Netflix series. And, I have to admit, the actress looked stunning as she wandered the streets of New York, alone or in the company of her cats. (Although there were some costumes that she seemed to really regret, like the orange dress with the white lace bodice and black velvet skirt that she wore in Episode 2. Or the floral-print dress with the red bandana that she wore in Episode 5. (Although, in fairness, those were some grim, grim days for the actress. She was pretty much the only person on screen for almost the entirety of that particular episode. So, you know, it was probably good that she wanted to shield herself from the paparazzi. Just kidding – it was definitely bad, but I doubt that Kate Beckinsale really cares too much about her fashion choices at this point.)

Of course, it wasn’t just about the clothes. It’s always about the overall feel. And there was definitely an undercurrent of sadness in many of the outfits that Kate Beckinsale sported in Plain Jane. It wasn’t hard for me to connect the dots and see that she was trying to emulate a style that she had seen in the novels of Jane Austen. And it was something that I think that viewers could connect with. (Although, since Kate Beckinsale is more famous for her acting ability than for her writing skills, I’m not sure how much success she had with fashion-related novels or films. (Just my two cents’ worth.))

Penny Pingleton

A few years back, Kate Beckinsale starred in The Secret Life of Penny Pingleton, a British comedy series that ran for two seasons. (I happened to catch the first season on Netflix, and really enjoyed it – it was a light-hearted look at the fashion world of the 1950s and 1960s.)

One of the main characters, Penny Pingleton, is played by Kate Beckinsale. (Which, if you’re keeping track, makes this character basically her alter-ego. But there’s also the side-character of Veronica, played by Lindsay Lohan. So, it’s basically Kate Beckinsale’s fantasyland where everything revolves around her.)

As I’ve established, I’m a huge fan of Kate Beckinsale’s style. So, it should come as no surprise that I was particularly drawn to the unique fashion choices that Penny made. From the pale blue suit with gold buttons that she wore in the first episode to the psychedelic prints and colorblocking in the second. (Although, that was probably one of the more mature looks that she’s worn – at least, from my point of view.)

One of my favorite outfits from the entire series is the pale blue suit with gold buttons that she wore in the first episode. (I mean, come on – who wouldn’t want to look like Kate Beckinsale?)

Gold Digger

Speaking of unique fashion choices, let’s not forget about the gold digger outfits that Kate Beckinsale sported in The Talented Mr. Ripley. (I caught that one on Hulu.)

Now, I know what you’re thinking. (Or, maybe you don’t know what I’m thinking. Maybe you’ve just seen Kate Beckinsale in The Talented Mr. Ripley and now you’re wondering what the big deal is. No judgments here.)
