Rumors surrounding the future of the “Twilight” star have been swirling for months, and now that the final installment of the franchise has been released, it’s safe to say that the speculation has paid off.

While the Twilight films were a huge success, both financially and critically, they weren’t exactly the platform for Robert Pattinson to cement his place in Hollywood. In fact, the last movie in the franchise, Twilight’s finale, broke several box office records upon its premiere in December 2015. But now that the dust has settled and the hype has died down, it’s time to look at the reality of where Pattinson’s career stands today.

Finishing A Twilight Saga

Pattinson’s last step in the Twilight saga was the culmination of seven years of acting in the fantasy genre. Along with his co-star, Kristen Stewart, he wrapped filming on the final installment, Twilight: The Final Chapter, in April 2015, and immediately went on a media blitz to promote the movie.

But perhaps the greatest testament to the monumental success of the Twilight franchise is how it managed to transition from an obscure indie flick to one of the most commercially successful movies of all time. Even after the film’s release in December 2015, it still managed to stay at the top of the box office charts for several months, eventually earning over $500 million worldwide.

And to think, Twilight wasn’t even Pattinson’s first foray into the realm of fantasy. Back in 2009, he starred in a film called The King’s Speech, which was based on the true story of William the Conqueror. Like most cinematic conquests, it was a glorious win for Robert Pattinson, and yet another feather in the cap of one of Hollywood’s greatest (and most underrated) talents.

Winding Down

After seven years of non-stop action (and an almost equal amount of speculation), it’s understandable that Pattinson might want a break. And as much as we would all like to see him carry on starring in blockbusters, it would probably be best for both his and Hollywood’s interests if he focuses on less high-octane projects. There are several filmmakers who could provide the perfect vehicle for Robert’s talents, and yet he hasn’t exactly rushed to sign on for another massive franchise.

Thankfully, there are also several projects at various stages of development that could serve as a platform for both Pattinson and Hollywood’s next leading man.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from Twilight is that it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Robert Pattinson is, in fact, a movie star. Even though his career might be winding down, it’s still early in his story, and Hollywood is ready to celebrate.
