There’s been a lot of speculations regarding the upcoming new Batman movie. Many people have been wondering if Robert Pattinson, who plays the hunky Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies, would be taking on the role of Batman, but there isn’t any confirmation one way or the other.
After Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson is arguably the biggest breakout star of the Twilight franchise. He has since appeared in various other films and commercials and has built a considerable following. Because of his young age, most people still think of him as a kid, but he’s actually turning into a pretty seasoned actor. And considering that Batman has had a pretty uneventful 2015 so far, perhaps Pattinson is getting ready to make his debut as the Dark Knight.
The Rumors

Why Edward Cullen?
One of the most intriguing aspects of the new Batman movie is the possibility of seeing a very young Robert Pattinson play a major role in a feature film. It would be amazing to see a young actor in such an important and complex role, especially since Edward is the son of a legendary actor, Timothy “Tim” Pattinson (known for his roles in Equus and The Lost Boys).
It’s quite a unique opportunity to see an actor at such a young age play a character of such importance. It would be amazing to see what this talented youngster can do with his newfound experience. And considering that this is, ultimately, a Batman movie, anything is possible.
What About the Batgirl Movie?
There’s been a lot of talk surrounding the new Batman movie, but one of the most interesting things is how it impacts the future of the Batgirl character. Since the release of The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon and long considered to be the flagship character of the Batman franchise, has not appeared in a theatrical feature. However, rumors persist that she’ll be appearing in a standalone movie.
Considering that the Batgirl movie was released prior to the start of the 2015 movie year and the ongoing popularity of the Dark Knight, perhaps Barbara Gordon will be appearing in a feature film soon.
It’s quite an interesting dynamic to see Barbara Gordon, daughter of the famous Batman comics creator, appearing in a movie, even though she isn’t technically related to the Dark Knight, since the character was created by her father, Bill, in the early 1950s. For decades, Bill Gordon never allowed his daughter to play with the character and even though she is an established actress, she wasn’t allowed to appear in films until past her 30th birthday. Even then, she wasn’t initially considered for the role of Barbara Gordon until after the filmmakers had recast the character several times and couldn’t find a suitable actress.
The fact that she’s still not allowed to play a major role in a Hollywood feature film, despite being an adult is quite the legacy she’s built for herself. And considering how much media attention there is surrounding the upcoming new Batman movie, perhaps Barbara Gordon will finally be given her due, in the form of a major role in a feature film.
What About the Joker?
One of the most anticipated aspects of the new Batman movie is the potential to see a very old, very famous villain make an appearance. Based on the widespread popularity of the Joker in the Batman universe, coupled with Jared Leto’s recent portrayal of the character in the independently-made, one-joker movie, The Joker, it would not be a shocking turn of events to see the Clown Prince of Crime make an appearance in the new Batman film. And considering that Jared Leto’s Joker is one of the most iconic depictions of the character ever, perhaps this will be the opportunity to see the real deal, make an appearance in a major motion picture.
It’s quite an interesting choice to see Jared Leto, most recently seen as Morpheus in the movie, The Matrix, Trilogy, play the Joker. Considering that The Matrix is one of the most significant cult classics of all time, it’s quite a bold choice to make. And considering Jared Leto’s experience as a singer-songwriter in the early part of this year, perhaps it’s the culmination of a long and winding road that leads to this iconic role. This is certainly a guy who knows how to work hard and it’s amazing what he’s done with the limited time he’s had to study acting. It would be amazing to see what he can do with more experience.

Since the release of Batman Begins in 2005, Warner Bros. has taken a less is more approach, when it comes to the Batman franchise. They’ve slowly been introducing new elements to the cinematic universe, while maintaining the integrity of the source material. The result, thus far, has been amazing and it’s quite evident that this new version of Batman is becoming more and more popular with each passing year.
The fact that this new Batman is the most popular version yet and that he’s still going strong, 11 years later, is proof of how impactful these characteristics are. And considering that he has such a long and storied history, perhaps this is the ultimate tribute to the Dark Knight, as we know and love it.
