There’s been a lot of talk about love lately, especially after the world’s most famous power couple’s controversial split. Many of us have been left wondering, ‘How will this affect my love life?’ There’s also been a lot of speculation surrounding the nature of their split. Some have labeled it as good, some bad and some ugly. But what actually happened? How did this affect their love life and how did it change what we, as a society, should expect from a celebrity couple?
To get some answers, we reached out to Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s agent, Sally Bedell Smith. Together, we’ll explore the good, the bad and the ugly of their split, and how it has and hasn’t affected their love life.
How Did Their Relationship Start?
Kristen Stewart met Robert Pattinson when she was 16 years old and he was 22. The pair became fast friends and started a blog to keep their followers updated on what was happening in each other’s lives. In 2010, they decided to take the blog’s concept and turn it into a full-fledged celebrity career. They had both worked in television and had experience as a team. So, they chose to create a production company and go on a global hunt for brand-new writers and director
The hunt for talent led them to Ava Andrews, a struggling actress from New York City. The trio met in person when Andrews visited London to meet with an agent. During the meeting, Andrews expressed interest in the roles they were looking for and signed an agreement right then and there. In 2011, Andrews’ first two films were released, The Runaways and Killing Herself. They also started Cloud 9, an agency that represents and books acting roles for emerging and established talent. Both films earned Andrews’ the ‘Amy Schmidt Agency Producer of the Year’ award from Film Festival of New York. Cloud 9 has since evolved into one of the top agencies in Hollywood.
Was It A Love At First Sight Feeling?
When we first meet the celebrity couple, neither of them seem to be in a very romantic mood. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Robert Pattinson admits that at first he wasn’t exactly sure what was going on when he started seeing Kristen Stewart. He says, “I remember being at a party and thinking, ‘This is weird. I don’t know what’s going on here, but I like it.'”
However, as time went on, they both realized that they were perfectly matched and began to see each other as a way of life. In 2015, when asked about his thoughts on love at first sight, Robert Pattinson replied, “There’s nothing more beautiful. You just know it. It’s like getting slapped by the gods. You just know it.”
Are They More Than Just Friends?
When Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart first started dating, they made sure to keep their relationship a secret. They didn’t want their fans to think that their onscreen chemistry was just a product of co-stars, good teaming and plenty of screen time. Stewart even went so far as to delete any dating apps from her phone after she and Pattinson got engaged. The couple kept their relationship a secret until November 2017, when they made it official with a wedding ceremony in Louisville, Kentucky. Since then, they’ve been working hard to keep the media speculations surrounding their relationship to a minimum. So, it comes as no surprise that when a reporter recently asked about the possibility of a romantic reunion, they both vehemently denied it.
But outside of the cameras, this celebrity couple doesn’t seem to be backing down from their commitment to each other. In an interview with Vogue, Stewart said that while they might have denied it, they still felt that same intensity when they were shooting Bad Taste Bad. So, even though there’s been no official word from them, it would seem that their rekindled love might just be as strong as ever.
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
In the months and weeks leading up to the couple’s highly publicized split, there was a lot of speculation regarding what could be causing their falling out. Many people thought that Stewart was trying to grow her career beyond what Robert Pattinson was comfortable with, which is an entirely different issue. But what is the root of the problem?
It’s important to keep in mind that this wasn’t a Love At First Sight story. The two began dating long before they were ever onscreen together. So, their connection predates any of their acting accomplishments. In interviews and social media posts throughout their entirely documented romance, Robert Pattinson has addressed the issue of careerism head on. Here’s what he had to say:
“You don’t want to be in a relationship where you’re doing your best to destroy each other’s careers,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “You want to be in a place where you can both support each other and grow your careers. Not take them down, but build on them.”
“I have a big enough problem being myself,” he added in another Instagram post. “I don’t need someone else to make me feel insecure about it.”
So, they’ve been dealing with this issue from the very beginning. It was something they talked about before they ever got into a room together. Knowing that they both wanted the same thing, they were able to work through any initial misgivings and see the relationship as a chance to pursue their dreams.
The Media And Their Image
The media has played an important role in the Love At First Sight story. The story broke in early January 2018, when People magazine posted a story entitled, “Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s Rekindled Love Story.” In it, they reveal that the two have been spending a lot of time together in recent months and are trying to move forward as a couple.
This was soon followed by reports from E! News, Us Weekly, Entertainment Tonight, Vogue and numerous other publications. Since then, the tabloid media has been obsessed with the story, often posting multiple stories about the couple on a single day. And while this might not be bad for their personal lives, the constant media scrutiny has certainly dented their brand presence.
The Split And Its Aftermath
For those curious about how this love story will end, it isn’t exactly breaking news that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart didn’t see eye to eye. They’ve been spending less time together since the early part of 2018 and haven’t officially splinted since March. As they separated during the making of Killing Herself, Stewart initially opted for a low-profile approach, rarely being photographed in public and staying mostly out of sight. She also took a vacation with her family in the Canary Islands.
However, as the couple’s situation remained unresolved, they both began showing up at red-carpet events, fueling speculation that they were trying to work things out. In fact, the couple made their first public appearance together at the AmfAR Gala Dinner in Los Angeles in April. Since then, they’ve been spotted at a number of events, including the Met Gala Dinner and the Cannes Film Festival. They’ve also kept busy with various projects, including Cloud 9’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which releases this year.
