The final Harry Potter film will be released next month, but the franchise’s prolific and influential writer, J.K. Rowling, continues to generate content year-round. Most recently she released a children’s book chronicling the adventures of Ron and Hermione as schoolchildren, a storyline that will be explored in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. The 52-year-old screenwriter and producer also dabbled in digital-first storytelling in 2019, narrating a series of horror stories in both audio and visual format. Here, we outline the various ways in which you can experience the prolific talent of J.K. Rowling now.
New Books, Audiobooks And Short Stories
Rowling’s latest work, Fangio, is a children’s book about a race car driver whose catchphrase is, “I’m faster than I look!” It was released on October 11 and is available to purchase from any major book retailer. One week after its US publication, Fangio was also made available in audiobook format as part of Audible’s “Discover new audiobooks exclusive to Audible” program. In March, Rowling released a collection of children’s short stories titled The Tales of Beedle the Bard, featuring the enchanting, if perplexing, tales of the legendary wizard Beedle the Bard. The 44-page volume also includes an introduction by J.K. Rowling. If you’re a fan of the screenwriter and wouldn’t mind improving your children’s vocabulary, then you can also look forward to hearing new words when you listen to the Tales of Beedle the Bard. The Tales of Beedle the Bard is now available to purchase as a hardback or ebook.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
In November 2018, J.K. Rowling’s former company, Bloomsbury, alongside Warner Bros., released the first of a new series of children’s fantasy novels, titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Although predominantly set in New York City, the story centers on a group of international monster hunters, known as the Fantastic Beasts, who attempt to track and capture notorious creatures that have escaped from the magical creatures section of the local zoo. After the movie was delayed several times, fans of the Harry Potter series finally got to see the creatures they’ve been reading about in the books for years, in live action. In late July, Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling announced that the first movie, directed by Bill Collinson, will hit theaters on November 20, with a sequel following in 2021.
J.K. Rowling: The Voice of Narnia
Annabel Karim Kassar’s Narnia: The Hidden World, a book about a young girl named Tam who discovers that her family’s former home, Cair Paravel, is now a luxurious hotel, has been nominated for a 2020 Independent Publishers Book Awards. If you’re a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia and would like to listen to Rowling’s original narration, then you can look forward to experiencing one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary fiction. Narnia: The Hidden World is now available for purchase on CD or via digital download from Amazon, Audible, or Google Play.
The Magical World of Harry Potter
If you have children or grandchildren who are already fans of the Harry Potter series then they’ll be able to enjoy Rowling’s continuing adventures in the magical world of Harry Potter without you having to spend a penny. The immensely popular author has written 24 books in the series, which has been translated into over 80 languages and sold over 300 million copies worldwide. Since its original publication in 1997, the Harry Potter series has appeared on bestseller lists worldwide and has been credited with inspiring a generation of readers. As well as being a bestseller, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the finale to the Harry Potter series, was also a critical and box office success. The critically acclaimed book, written by Rowling and her son, Jack, followed the adventures of adult Harry Potter as he raised his son, Albus, after the end of the Voldemort crisis. Though the film series is complete, J.K. Rowling has continued to write new stories set within the magical world of Harry Potter for both children and adults alike. In 2020, fans of the Harry Potter books and movies will get the opportunity to explore the magical world in person when the Harry Potter Experience opens at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The attraction is set to premiere in late January and will offer fans an opportunity to indulge in an array of wizardry-related festivities, including a brief walk through the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Harry Potter Experience is included in most US Universal Studios packages, and though it is a one-time only offer, it’s still one that will excite the fans of J.K. Rowling’s incredible works. The Harry Potter books are now available in an officially licensed Pottermore children’s choir sing-a-long edition, presented in an elegant box with an illustrated lid, curated by Sainsbury’s Books.
A Character Piece Or Two
Though they haven’t always been recognized for their work outside of Hollywood, women such as J.K. Rowling have been instrumental in the creation of some of contemporary fiction’s most enduring literary tropes. The most notable example is undoubtedly, Harry Potter’s adventures, which drew heavily on the writer’s real-life experiences as a single mother raising a child while working in a London bookstore. Despite the fact that Rowling was already a successful author when she got married, she credits her subsequent successes to her time spent writing about Harry Potter, explaining, “I would write in the morning, when my son was still asleep, and then go in to work. When I came home in the afternoon, it would be time for him to have his dinner, and so I would have to go back to work. I did that for about a year, which was exceptionally hard work, and then I started getting phone calls from Hollywood, telling me I’d made it as a screenwriter.” In 2020, fans of Rowling’s Wizarding World will get the opportunity to dive into the life of the extraordinary magical creator, J.K. Rowling, in a new play, titled The Motherfucker With The Hat, written by Zoe Bartolotta and directed by Luke Bailey. The play looks at the author’s life from a queer perspective and features some of today’s most exciting stage and screen actors, including Richard Madden, Sophie Okonedo, and Rosie Campbell. In the play, Lucy Pevensie goes back in time to meet J.K. Rowling, a character who is both heroic and manipulative. Though the playwright has stated that she wants to distance herself from the material, the parallels between what happened in real life and the events of the play are so extensive that it’s almost impossible to separate the two. The play is now on stage in London’s West End and has also been extended into a movie, with Zoe Bartolotta also set to direct. Though it is unclear whether or not The Motherfucker With The Hat will feature an appearance by Harry Potter himself, it’s still a unique opportunity for fans of the books and films to get a glimpse at the life of the woman who created one of the greatest fictional worlds of all time.
