Robert Pattinson is one of the hottest topics in Hollywood at the moment, thanks to his new movie, Downton Abbey and his blossoming romance with Amal Clooney. The English actor is currently on a press tour for the movie, and we were fortunate enough to get some time with him earlier this week. During our chat, he opened up about his love for Amal and their sweet relationship, as well as spoke extensively about what it’s like dating a celebrity.

Early Days

Pattinson began his acting career in 1995, starring in Galore and Shopping in London’s West End. He then went on to appear in numerous stage productions before landing the role of Darcy in Duchess of Cambridge. Since then, he’s appeared in such high-profile films as Concussion, Killing Them Softly, and most recently, The Great Gatsby.

Romantic Proposal

Pattinson got engaged to his Danish costar, Fleur Anderssen, in 2011. They had been dating for several years before proposing, and despite the fact that he’s one of the most famous men in the world right now, he’s surprisingly modest in terms of his romantic exploits. He spoke at length about how happy he is to have found love, and how he hopes to be able to grow old with his wife.

“I’m so blessed to have found love again, after such a long time,” he said. “It’s great to have someone you really care about, to spend your life with. I think age brings a kind of maturity, where you can really care for someone. I’d like to spend the rest of my life with her.”

Who Is Amal Clooney?

Amal Clooney is the twin sister of actor George Clooney. She studied Economics at Trinity College, and eventually became a partner at DLJ Merchant Banking, serving as a vice president. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S.A. Football Team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Natural History Museum in London.

Born and raised in London, Clooney has worked in the U.K. and Ireland, and was previously a governor of Radley College. She most recently served as a Special Envoy to the Northern Ireland on Conflict Resolution. She has also been involved in numerous other community groups, working to improve gender equality and empower women and young people. She is also a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, supporting the UN’s HeforShe campaign, which aims to put women’s rights on the global development agenda.

What Is The Difference Between The Two Of You?

Although they are officially an item, Clooney and Pattinson have been friends for years. In fact, they starred together in The Great Gatsby, opposite each other’s character. When Gatsby was released, their co-starring and romantic chemistry was on full display for the entire world to see. Just two months after that film’s premiere, Clooney and Pattinson were spotted walking hand-in-hand in London, and news of their engagement followed shortly thereafter.

Do You Ever Get Recognized On The Streets?

While on the subject of being recognized on the streets, Pattinson revealed that he gets recognized quite a bit, especially in Europe. When asked if he gets recognized more often abroad than in his home country, he replied:

“I think so, yeah. I get recognized in Europe a lot because, obviously, my picture’s been everywhere. But I get recognized in London, just around the corner from the hotel I was staying at. I walked past this lady, she called out to me, she said ‘Excuse me, are you Robert Pattinson?'”

Pattinson then had to explain to the astonished stranger that no, he was actually not, but she persisted in her curiosity and asked if he would mind posing for a selfie. Pattinson obliged and the two struck a conversation about the book they were both reading, before the woman finally handed him her phone so he could take a picture.

As well as being a famous author, she was also a pioneering social historian, and exponent of the philosophy of “the good life.” Many of her voluminous works have been adapted for the stage, and a stage production of The Sea, the Sea is currently playing in London. While the play itself may appear quite modern, Murdoch’s unique and timeless stories have never been more relevant, and still speak to us today about the importance of community and the value of good relationships.

It’s a question that’s been asked frequently since news of Clooney and Pattinson’s romance broke. While they are both incredibly happy to be together, they also know how much their celebrity brought them, and continue to benefit from the spotlight. Do You Feel More Secure In Your Relationship Because Of Your Partner’s Popularity?

Being a celebrity can make you feel a little less vulnerable. People automatically treat you with more respect, and you begin to feel a little more comfortable in your own skin. Do you feel more secure in your relationship because of your partner’s popularity?

Pattinson said:

  • ‘Course I do. I mean, not that I feel less secure. But I think when you do have some sort of public profile, and people know who you are, it can protect you in a way, because you can’t be easily ignored. You can’t say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know he was famous.’ You can’t get away with that when you’ve got the paparazzi waiting at the end of the driveway.
  • I’ve never felt more vulnerable. It’s strange, because usually, the more famous someone is, the less vulnerable you feel. But for some reason, with Amal, it makes me feel more vulnerable. Because she’s so damn famous.
  • I feel very fortunate, because I’ve never felt more wanted. It’s great when someone really cares about you, and wants to see you happy. And she does. We’re both very, very happy. And of course, being with her makes me feel safer. Knowing that there’s someone out there who wants to protect you… it’s a nice feeling.

It’s evident that these two have gotten very, very lucky, and it’s not hard to see why. Not only do they have each other’s support and affection, but they’ve also been given the opportunity to make a difference in the world. It seems that everyone they touch is better for it, and we can’t help but wonder what the future holds for this remarkably charming and talented couple.
