The first question that likely crosses your mind when you first hear the news that Robert Pattinson has married Kate Bosworth is, “How old was he?” Of course, you’re wondering about his age because he was most recently seen on the big screen as the smoldering heartthrob, Edward Cullen, in the blockbuster franchise, The Twilight Saga. He also had a bit part in the James Bond movie, Skyfall. So, you’ve probably seen the actor/singer/songwriter/painter/climber/skier in numerous films and on TV shows. So, it would be fair to assume that he’s been around a while. Is Robert Pattinson really as old as he looks? Find out here, as we compare his acting resume to his real age.
Pattinson’s Film Career
If we compare his film debut to his most recent film, we see that he’s really been around the block several times. He was 28 years old when he first appeared in the 2004 film, Finding Neverland. In this adaptation of the J.M. Barrie play, he played Peter Pan. Interestingly enough, he wasn’t a model-type of guy back then. In fact, he admits that he gained 30 pounds for the role. We can assume that this was a temporary insanity diet because he’s certainly not stayed that way. In 2006, he appeared in the Oscar-nominated movie, Brokeback Mountain. It was here that we saw his beautiful, porcelain-like skin for the first time. Aside from playing a gorgeous man-candy, he also had a supporting role as the less-handsome man who gets the love of Emily’s (Anne Heche) life. In 2008, he played a neurotic dentist in the drama, The Opportune Season. The following year, he appeared in the big-budget blockbuster, The Dark Knight, as the Joker. During that same year, he released his first directorial effort, the award-winning, Mostly Martha. In 2010, he portrayed John Lennon in the movie, I Love John, and in 2012, he appeared in the crime comedy, This Is Where I Leave You. In 2014, he began shooting the science fiction movie, The Rover. He also executive produced the 2015 indie film, The Babysitter, which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth. In 2019, he filmed a remake of Dario Argento’s classic Italian horror movie, Suspiria, which he also co-starred in. This year, he’ll appear in the upcoming Ridley Scott movie, The Irishman. He also has a part in the upcoming 2020 movie, The King. In 2021, he’ll be seen in two big-budgeted movies: Michael Bay’s action-adventure The Final War and James Wan’s horror flick, Dead Souls.
How Does Pattinson’s Film Career Fit His Age?
Pattinson’s acting career has spanned many years. He was 26 when he appeared in Finding Neverland and 27 when he filmed Brokeback Mountain. He looked younger than that, however, as he was actually two years older than his onscreen partner, Edward Cullen. In keeping with his current profile as a mature individual, he doesn’t really fit the Hollywood image of a teenage heartthrob. Looking at his filmography, we can assume that he’s matured quite a bit since the days of his teddy bear persona in the Harry Potter films. While he still has a playful charm, it’s been replaced with an understanding of life’s complexities. This is most apparent in his work with director, Peter Berg. Together, they filmed the 2008 crime drama, The Kingdom, which was selected for the 2019 Film Festival de Cannes and won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival that same year. In the Kingdom, Pattinson plays dual roles as a young prince and a rebellious sheriff. Berg and Pattinson worked together on seven other projects, including one of Berg’s previous films, City of Ghosts. During that same time, they also developed a script for a Berg-produced TV series, The Highwayman, which will be executive produced by Skyfall’s Steven Spielberg and Amazing Race’s Jon Taffer. The show will revolve around an epic battle for a female-centric treasure map worth billions. Taffer and Berg will be co-directing the pilot episode. If you’re curious about Berg and Pattinson’s work together, you can also check out the 2019 documentary, We Need to Talk About Kevin, which explores the complicated relationship that they have both shared and is continuing to build upon. Most recently, they teamed up for the thriller, The Spy, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Pattinson’s Real Age
While we can assume that Pattinson has been around the block a few times, let’s put his age into proper perspective. The English actor was born on October 19, 1983. So, he would have been 28 years old when he first appeared in Finding Neverland and Brokeback Mountain. As noted, he gained 30 pounds for the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight and Skyfall. Since then, he’s been relatively unchanged, staying at a healthy weight and looking great. In Finding Neverland, he was accompanied by his real-life partner, Kate Bosworth, who is now his wife. She gave birth to their daughter, Loretta, in 2015. So, they’ve been together since 2013 and were married in a lavish ceremony in London in early 2020. Although their union was surrounded by lots of media scrutiny, Kate and Rob have been pretty open about their romance and their relationship. Rob even stated that he sees their daughter, Loretta, as a symbol of their blossoming romance. Since their separation, Kate has been very vocal about being a single parent and how hard her life has been without him. The two are planning to file for divorce. In 2020, they plan to share parental responsibilities with their respective biological families. At the time of their ceremony, Rob was known as Robin and Kate was known as Katie. Since then, he’s become Robin Pattinson and she’s remained Katie. So, if you ask us, he’s definitely aged well.
