One of the most interesting news stories to come out of the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival was that actor Robert Pattinson will star in a new, as yet untitled, superhero movie. We don’t know much about it yet, except that it’s written and directed by Matt Damon and is set for release in May 2022.

While none of us knew who Damon was when he was starring in Good Will Hunting, our knowledge of Robert Pattinson comes mainly from his performance in the Twilight series. The British actor is arguably best known for playing a vampire in the hugely commercially successful franchise. He is also the former boyfriend of actress and comedian Kristen Stewart.

Why Is This Actor Relevant In 2022?

In the years since the end of the Twilight series, Robert Pattinson has largely stayed out of the limelight. He took a break from acting and dedicated himself to his music. But in August 2021, Pattinson returned to the big screen with a role in the critically acclaimed horror The Lazarus Effect. In the movie, which was directed by George Clooney, Pattinson plays Dr. Max Clodfelter, a brilliant and eccentric doctor who has dedicated his life to studying and understanding the occult. Clodfelter is the first to discover that the virus that is rapidly spreading around the world might be somehow related to ancient gods and legendary creatures. The movie is currently in theaters and has been received well by audiences and critics alike.

Will Robert Pattinson Star In More Batman Movies?

The role of Dr. Max Clodfelter is certainly a step in the right direction for the 44-year-old actor. It is his first significant role since the end of the Twilight series, and it’s exactly the sort of complex character that he was born to play. We know that Matt Damon and George Clooney saw something in Pattinson that they liked and decided to give him a shot. Hopefully this will be the first of many movie roles for Robert Pattinson in the coming years.
