Since 2005
It was back in May of 2005 when Robert Pattinson first made his dramatic debut in the much-maligned Scooby-Doo 2. The movie was a critical and commercial flop, but it didn’t seem to bother Pattinson as he went on to land other noteworthy roles in Lust For Life and The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum. He also showed up for a scene in the 2004 film Kinsey, but did not appear in the final cut of the movie.
Then, in 2007, his first leading role arrived when he was selected to star in the critically acclaimed psychological thriller The Loved One. He earned excellent reviews for his portrayal of a psychopath, and went on to win the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. Even more importantly, he showed Hollywood that he was capable of starring in more mainstream fare. That year he also starred alongside George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the action-adventure film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He followed this role up with a supporting role in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows in 2012, and starred alongside Amy Schumer in the critically acclaimed comedy Trainwreck in 2015. In 2018, he became a father for the first time when his wife, Bella, gave birth to their first child, a son named Tamarra Wolf. The couple have since welcomed two more children, a daughter, Luna, and a son, Abel.
So how long has Robert Pattinson been Batman? Since Scooby-Doo 2 in 2005. As we mentioned above, he has been acting for much longer than that, but this is the movie that started it all.
The Evolution of Batman
With a career spanning six decades, it’s no surprise that Batman has appeared in so many different forms. The character has been featured in numerous comics and films, and the scope of this article doesn’t allow for us to cover them all. But, we can examine the evolution of Batman over the years. And what’s interesting is that, although the character has shifted and evolved with the times, one thing remains: Batman loves to dress up!
In the very first issue of Detective Comics, published in 1939, the character was named Clark Kent, and only wore a suit and tie. Over the next seven years, he would grow his hair and ditch the suit in favor of his iconic black and white outfit. By the time that Batman was adapted into film in 1943, he had already become an established part of pop culture, and the media began to speculate over what the real name of the hero might be. The consensus? Batman.
The following year, the first of the post-World War II films opened, and the comic book industry began embracing the popularity of the character. Over the next four decades, Batman would go on to appear in hundreds of films and television shows, solidifying his spot as one of the most popular superheroes ever.
The modern incarnation of Batman first appeared in the 1966 Batman television series. Directed by Adam West and inspired by the comics of that era, the show was a huge hit, creating a whole new audience for Batman. The following year, he made his film debut in the iconic Batman, and has appeared in every single entry of the franchise (with the exception of the 1989 Batman).
Since then, the character has evolved alongside the films, finding new gear as the years went by. The Dark Knight Rises, the most recent addition to the franchise, was released in autumn of 2012, ten years to the day of the premiere of the first Batman movie. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a new Batman film, with Warner Bros. even putting on hold the production of their latest DC Comics offering, Aquaman, in order to launch the production of the anticipated sequel to The Dark Knight Rises. And the wait is almost over as a spinoff tv show, Arkham Shadows, was just picked up by Fox Broadcasting Company and will be released this year.
So how long has Robert Pattinson been Batman? Since 2005, when he first appeared in Scooby-Doo 2. The character’s legacy will live on for years to come.
