It’s been over a year since we stopped covering the Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson courtship/wedding saga, but it seems like only yesterday that the happy couple were spotted out on their first official date. Looking back on the year that was, it’s safe to say that their romance blossomed the way many celebrity couples’ do – with plenty of ups and downs that made for one of the most eventful celebrity partnerships of the year.

Their Early Days.

The couple first collided in the 2014 Victoria’s Secret fashion show, where they were both sitting side-by-side in the front row. Their eyes met for the first time, and from there, it was love at first sight. Although their connection was instant, they did not meet in person until a few months later at a party for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, where they both attended the premiere of the film. Over the next couple of years, they were often spotted holding hands or kissing on the lips at social gatherings and other celebrity events. Most notably, they were both at the 2015 Academy Awards together, sharing an extremely passionate (and possibly ‘unofficial’) kiss that was met with lots of applause from the audience.

The Anniversary.

The lovebirds tied the knot on October 19th, 2016, just a few months after the Academy Awards. As before, they chose a stunning venue for the event, holding the wedding ceremony at London’s luxurious Lancaster London Hotel. Guests were given a taste of Oxford Street’s luxury shops as they made their entrance, with an exhibition of floral displays and a string quartet providing the perfect atmosphere for the big day.

The wedding anniversary was marked by the couple releasing a video message to their fans, thanking them for their support over the past year. They also shared some intimate details about their relationship, including how they decided to keep their engagement a secret for so long. “We didn’t want to ruin the mystery by telling anyone, especially our families,” admitted Robert. “We kept it a secret because we wanted to have it as a surprise. It’s something we both appreciate and are grateful for. Now, we’re glad that it’s over and done with.”

The Year Of Disappointment.

It would be nearly two years before the couple would publicly acknowledge their engagement. On June 26th, 2018, Robert was seen wearing a stunning ring as he arrived at a premiere for the adaptation of his novel, The Goldfinch, in London. The same day, an Instagram post from Kristen, marked with the ‘Wedding Bells’ logo, revealed that the couple had tied the knot earlier that year. Though this was a major event in their lives and undoubtedly a memorable moment for many of their fans, it was not quite what it seemed. The post featured a photograph of Bob’s sister, Samantha, and her husband, Tim, who are posing with the newlywed couple. Many assumed that the Instagram post was a celebration of the newlywed couple’s ‘honeymoon,’ but in reality, it was a very awkward moment for the pair.

In a move that was seemingly designed to quell the rumors, Kristen took to Twitter a few days later, explaining that she and Bob were not yet married. “I would like to take this opportunity to address the rumors that have been circulating recently. While we have been incredibly blessed, it’s also been a challenging year,” she wrote, before thanking her fans for their support and adding: “I love you all so much and am so grateful for all the joy this year has brought us. Please know that Bob and I are very much in love and are looking forward to many more exciting years together.” The post received a lot of criticism from users, who felt that the year 2019 should have been dedicated to their honeymoon, but there were plenty of other stars who had to cancel weddings and honeymoons due to the pandemic.

Another Year Of Living In Private.

Since then, the couple have kept a low profile, with Kristen rarely putting a foot out of doors and even then, keeping a low profile. In fact, they have spent much of their year living under the same roof as their fans, with the occasional glimpse of their beautiful wedding day or Robert’s abs on social media keeping things fresh for their followers.

The only real sign of life we have seen from the couple have been occasional appearances in the media, with the most recent being at the 2020 Golden Globes, where they were both seen in attendance, along with Jessica Chastain and Kate Winslet. While Robert went for a classic look in a black suit and sunglasses, Kristen opted for a white dress with a neckline that plunged down to her navel and a matching set of diamond earrings. The three looked as though they were having a good time and were happy to be ‘rookie’ guests at the glittering ceremony. They did not, however, enjoy the experience as much as previous years and left early, with Robert telling reporters: “We’re good, we’re happy, we had a lot of fun.”

One of the most high-profile events the pair were seen at was the 11th Annual Guggenheim Arts International Awards Gala, where they joined forces with other famous romantics, including Emma Roberts and Jason Patric. Walking the red carpet together was a memorable moment for the trio and showed that even when they aren’t actively promoting their engagement, it still manages to be one of the defining moments of the year. Also in the same vein, they were both featured in the 2020 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and their covers, along with their stunning black-tie engagement party, were some of the most photographed events of the year.

A Year Of Growing Their Own Family.

One of the defining moments of the year was undoubtedly the birth of their first child. On December 31st, 2019, a delighted Kristen posted a photograph of her growing baby bump, alongside with the caption: “Yes, I’m pregnant! And no, I’m not going to tell you which one of our eight gorgeous guys is the father…” The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulations from fans, with many sharing their excitement about the upcoming arrival of their first baby. While there were numerous reports of the happy couple having fertility issues, the issue has been resolved and it would appear that their fans’ excitement about the prospect of fatherhood is going to be fulfilled.

It seems like only yesterday that we were eagerly counting down the hours to the premiere of the latest Twilight installment, but already, it’s been a year since the last one was released. Looking back on the year that was, it’s safe to say that star-crossed lovers Kristen and Robert, as well as their devoted fan base, have lots to cheer about. While their personal life has been kept private, they have certainly not been hiding their relationship from the rest of the world and have, in fact, been quite the opposite. They have shown the world their beautiful spark and undeniable commitment to one another and it seems only right that they be among the select few couples who were able to celebrate an anniversary and a wedding day this year.
