You’re most likely aware of the phenomenal success of the Twilight series. If you’re not, you may need some convincing. The films were responsible for one of the greatest wave of popular culture phenomenons of all time. With global box office receipts of over $7 billion, it’s safe to say that Robert Pattinson is a very rich man.
The series has been so successful because of its focus on an impossible romance. Pattinson plays Edward, a perfect, suave, and stylish man-about-town who meets Bella (Kristen Stewart), an independent and strong-willed young woman who immediately sees through his perfectionist façade. The series became so popular because of its fresh approach to a classic love story and the pairings of its young protagonists. Edward and Bella are such a legendary and iconic couple that it’s no wonder fans have spent so much time and effort crafting hilarious memes about them.
If you’re unfamiliar, a meme is a short expression or joke that spreads rapidly through social media platforms such as Twitter. The memes for Edward and Bella are plentiful and capture their hilarious moments perfectly. Whether you’re a fan of the Twilight series or not, it’s certainly worth checking out.
The Money Meme
The money meme was inspired by a tweet from Robert Pattinson in which he said, “Thank you for reminding me that I’m rich. I didn’t realize I could buy so much happiness. I give my money to charity, though.” The meme quickly went viral and has been re-tweeted over 25,000 times.
The tweet inspired various memes poking fun at the actor’s seemingly generous nature. One of the most popular memes features a mock-ups of a thank you note from Pattinson, thanking the public for their ‘generosity’. The meme reads:
“Thank you for reminding me that I’m rich. I didn’t realize I could buy so much happiness. I give my money to charity, though. So if you wouldn’t mind picking up a cup of coffee for an orphanage, I’d appreciate it.”
Coffee mug that reads ‘Not Just A Bean Sorter’
Another popular meme captures Pattinson with a coffee mug that reads ‘Not Just A Bean Sorter’. The mug is decorated with images of coffeeshop patrons with their eyes closed, presumably in blissful thought, drinking their coffee. The image was accompanied by the caption, ‘I’m a coffee sorter.’
Pattinson’s love for French literature is on full display in yet another meme, this time featuring an image of the actor from the back, dressed in a tuxedo. Above him flies a small, black bird. Written across his forehead are the words, ‘I’m sorry.’
The meme garnered over 15,400 retweets and inspired others to riff on the famous quote. One of the most creative came from @R_Patterson12, who created a parody of Andre’ Boucher’s painting ‘The Swan’ with Pattison dressed as the titular character. The black-and-white painting is iconic and featured on the French artist’s first mock-up of an Andre’ Boucher painting book. The quote and the meme both reference Boucher’s 1874 painting, which depicts a swan singing to a goose.
The Anti-Valentine’s Day Meme
The anti-Valentine’s Day meme got its start when a Twitter user posted a photo of Pattison and Stewart holding hands and wrote, “Sad that Valentine’s Day isn’t on a Monday.” That tweet was re-tweeted over 12,000 times and sparked the creation of various memes poking fun at the romance-themed holiday. One of the most popular memes shows Pattison, Stewart, and a group of women, all of them topless and holding hands. The caption reads:
“We don’t need no stinking Valentine’s Day, because we have love.”
The holiday wasn’t all women, however, as men were not forgotten. A different photo shows a man, presumably Stewart’s father, offering a man in a gorilla outfit a drink. The meme’s text juxtaposes these two images and mocks both the holiday and Stewart’s father. It has over 7,000 retweets.
Fame And Fortune
If you’re a fan of the Twilight series, then it’s obviously not a secret that Robert Pattinson is an exceptionally talented and handsome actor. The fact that he was able to connect with audience members on such a profound level is both a testament to his talent and an endorsement of his good looks. The popularity of the series and the memes surrounding it are a testament to the actor’s charisma and all-around good nature.
Loving The Luxury
One of the most interesting aspects of the Twilight phenomenon is the fact that Robert Pattinson embraced the opportunity to become a household name. Prior to landing the role of Edward, the actor was largely known for his supporting roles in independent films, many of which were fairly low-budget. When he signed on to play Edward, he went with the understanding that he would be paid a certain amount for each movie. In the end, he wound up making more than he would have as an independent actor, leading some to dub him ‘The King of the Indies’.
Despite the considerable success that followed, the actor has never really strayed from his roots. He still regularly appears in indie films and even shot a small film, titled Bandersnatch, this year, which was financed by fans who donated via Indiegogo.
