One of the most anticipated films of the coming year is Robert Pattinson’s eagerly anticipated drama, Cosmos. The film will star the British actor as a young man who stumbles upon a time-travel machine and accidentally winds up in Ancient Rome. He meets Domitia, played by FKA Twigs, and becomes entangled in a series of events that will change his life forever. In a new interview with Vogue, Twigs spoke about her character and what she has planned next as the film premieres in theaters on January 10, 2021.
On Playing Domitia, The First Lady Of Rome
I have always been a big fan of Roman mythology. Growing up, I was obsessed with the gods, goddesses, and the entire mythology behind the story of Rome. As an actress, portraying such a well-known character was a dream come true.
It was an incredible honor to play such a significant and timeless role in a movie about Roman times. I’m so excited that people are going to get to see this side of Rome that hasn’t been shown on screen in a long time. One of the reasons I got the part was because I connected so well with the character. We have so much in common, both professionally and personally—we’re both British, we’re both highly intelligent, and, at the end of the day, we both like to have fun!
To be able to work with an incredible array of talent, from costume designers to set designers to makeup artists to editors, was such an incredible opportunity. It really was a dream come true.
What Can We Look Forward To In Cosmos?
With all the talent involved in making Cosmos, I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. Fortunately, it exceeded them. The entire production had a sense of wonder and awe that came from the very first shot to the very last. There are so many amazing visuals and special effects in the movie that it practically feels like you’re there—which I think is what JK Rowling meant when she said magic is real and it is happening right now!
This is one of the first times that a Harry Potter reference will appear in a review, but I felt it was important enough to mention. In Cosmos, a young man named Robert encounters a time-travel device that allows him to visit different periods in history. During one of these visits, he winds up in Ancient Rome. There he meets Domitia, who becomes his guide and helps him navigate the treacherous waters of Roman culture.
What I love most about this character is that she is strong and independent, yet also a very traditional Roman wife. She believes in the values of the culture and is a proud mother figure, often trying to shield her son, Titus, from the evils of the world. While she’s protective of Titus, she still has aspirations for him, which Robert greatly benefits from.
Weaving is a lost art in these modern times and it’s great to see it represented in such a stunning way in Cosmos, from the stunning dresses to the intricate wall hangings and carpets. As well as being a source of pride, I also connected with the weavings because they are such a symbolic representation of women’s strength and craftsmanship.
What Does The Future Hold For FKA Twigs?
After completing Cosmos, I’m looking forward to relaxing with my family and friends. I’ve been traveling so much recently that I’m really looking forward to having some down time. I’d like to do some acting, but I’m also open to anything that comes my way. The world is my oyster!
I would like to thank Cosmos for giving me this incredible platform to shine on. The fans have been very kind and supportive, and I look forward to continuing to entertain them and make them feel happy and proud to be British.
