It seems like it was only yesterday that we were celebrating the grand opening of the Twilight Saga in theaters across the country. Since then, the franchises have grossed over $22 billion at the box office and spawned numerous memorable moments at theaters across the world. Now, over three years later, the series is about to return with its fourth installment, Twilight Saga – Eclair. To celebrate the return of the series, Stephenie Meyer is returning to the big-screen to narrate and commentate on all the events that unfold in Eclair.
Among the many iconic moments chronicled in The Twilight Saga is the scene where Victoria Beckham wears a wedding dress that twitches as she waves to the guests. For the latest installment of the saga, the designer debuted a new look that she’s dubbed the “Beckham wedding dress”—and, once again, she used Victoria Beckham’s infamous “wiggle” as inspiration.
Most recently, Stephenie Meyer introduced the world to the vampire world with the release of the film adaptation of her popular young adult series, The New York Times bestselling Diary of a Teacher (which was later turned into a Netflix series of the same name).
While promoting The New York Times Diary of a Teacher, Stephenie Meyer was interviewed by Elle Magazine, and she discussed how she chose Victoria Beckham as the perfect embodiment of her vampire princess Alice Alhambra:
“I had this vision of a beautiful young vampire princess who wants to be accepted by the world and loves shopping and accessorizing,” Meyer said. “I wanted to find a young woman who could play the role and make it look like I wrote the character specifically for her.”
Through The New York Times Diary of a Teacher, we learn that vampires can be romantic beings, and it was clear that Meyer had Alice in mind when she wrote the novel. As she explained to the magazine:
“I loved the idea of a girl who is a full vampire and not afraid to show off her emotions,” Meyer said. “It’s not like in the movies where they’re just painted with a facial cavity and no emotions show. So
I always knew that I would use Alice for the role of Lily in a future part of the saga.”
With The New York Times Diary of a Teacher now available on Blu-ray, visit Fandango to watch the movie in high definition with great sound and picture quality.
In addition to watching the film, fans of Meyer’s Twilight work will want to see the following moments from the films emphasized in the book:
- Victoria’s wedding dress (which inspired Beckham’s designer and, later, the dress Alice wears in the movie)
- Victoria’s appearance in the film, particularly her wedding dress and crystal necklace
- Victoria shopping for apparel and accessories
- Victoria’s character sketch, which is featured on the book’s cover
- The first time that Victoria shares a scene with Pattinson’s character, Edward Elton
- The scene where Lily goes on a tiger hunt
- Lily’s interaction with Alpha is another scene that was emphasized in the novel
For those fans who have read the Diary of a Teacher and wanted to see Victoria Beckham as Alice, Oberste Nottingham Hilton is the perfect candidate. The twenty-four-year-old designer was born in South London and attended the Elite Institute in Paris before moving to New York City. Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fashion design in 2014, Hilton has worked for a number of high-profile designers, including Richemont (Swiss Watch), Bulgari and Tom Ford.
Hilton’s clothes have earned him a good reputation among the design set and have been called “futurist wedding cake style” and “the new It girl” by Vogue and “tiger blood” by The Guardian.
Why Oberste Nottingham Hilton?
When it comes to finding the perfect Alice replacement, it is impossible to simply look at her acting talents and pitch voice.
Hilton believes that he was chosen for the role of Alice because of his designer sense. As a child, he always enjoyed making dresses and costumes for his Costume party role in primary school, and he later applied this passion to the world of design when he applied to Elite Institute.
“I love to dress up and be a part of another person’s wedding,” he told Vogue. “I think it’s such an honor to be asked to wear such a beautiful dress. I can’t wait to make it my own wedding day.”
Hilton mentioned that the dress that he wears in the film is one of the final pieces that he designed for Victoria Beckham. As he worked on the dress, he told the magazine that he considered the scantily clad Alice a “living wedding cake.”
Given the huge success of The Twilight Saga and its continued popularity, vampires and their relationships with humanity (or humankind) are certainly a hot topic in current fandom.
