If you’re reading this, I assume you’re either a massive fan of Pattinson’s work or have at least heard of it. Perhaps you’ve even seen one of his films. If not, then it’s time to discover the magnificent depths of Robert Pattinson. I suggest you do so with extreme caution. This article is going to tell you about a side of Pattinson you might not be familiar with. It’s going to tell you about his struggles, his challenges, and above all, his triumphs. So, if you’re looking for some juicy tabloid-worthy tidbits about the latest celebrity scandals, then you’ve come to the wrong place. This article’s for the fans, by the fans. It’s a guide to life, love, and longevity for the man you love to hate.

The Early Years

When Robert Pattinson was growing up, he wanted to be a musician. He started playing the recorder at the age of seven and the guitar at 14. Like many teenage boys, he was obsessed with pop music at the time and dreamed of becoming a famous rock star. He even modelled himself after the legendary Jimi Hendrix. Unfortunately, his parents didn’t share his enthusiasm for music and grounded him after only playing one concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 18. After high school, he had to decide what to do with his life and ended up deciding to go to Cambridge University. There, he graduated with a degree in economics and started working for a large financial institution. While in university, he had apparently been living in a tiny one-room flat with his roommate. Now, he lives in a 7,000 square foot mansion with a big garden. How the hell did he afford all this? Well, we can probably assume he’s extremely rich and successful, which makes sense, because he is a gorgeous, famous man who is often linked to A-list celebs. He is also the subject of many crazy fan theories, which I won’t get into here. So, let’s continue.

The Rise

After a few years of working for the bank, he decided to move to L.A. to pursue a career in acting. Luckily, he landed a role in one of the most iconic films of all time, Batman Begins. As you know, Christian Bale was nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Batman, which was one of the main contributing factors to the film’s success. This allowed him to land major roles in other flicks, including the Hunger Games and The Great Gatsby. Now, he’s arguably one of the biggest movie stars in the world. But, despite his career successes, he’s still not happy. He keeps himself busy working and travelling the globe, but he never seems to truly relax.

The Work Hard, Play Harder

In 2016, he was named the UK’s Sexiest Man of the Year and then followed it up with the European Sexiest Man Award. What’s important here is that he views these kinds of trophies and awards as a means to an end. He wants to be extremely successful in his acting career, but he doesn’t want to stop there. He wants to be the best actor, director, and producer that he can be. He plays the guitar, works out, and is always looking for the next challenge. He has said:

“I don’t feel like I’m finished, the more I do, the more I want to do. The only way to improve is by always trying to do better. I never feel like I’m ready, and the more I do, the more I realise how much there is to learn.”

He is fully aware of how blessed he is to be in a position to demand more from himself. He has a purpose, a mission, even – he calls it ‘the work hard, play harder mantra’. Now, it might not be the most original concept, but it serves its purpose. People love watching him work hard and play harder. It’s almost as if his public persona is an elaborate performance – an act. He’s a man who enjoys being in control and appearing to be effortless. While it’s great to admire his ambition, if you’re looking for a nice, relaxing Sunday afternoon, there’s probably not much you can do. He is often filming or performing at the moment, so it’s unlikely you’ll get a face-to-face chat with him. Still, I’m sure you’ll find a way. Don’t give up.

The Challenges

So, not only is he incredibly driven, but he also seems to find the little things in life extremely frustrating. Take his experience with the English language for example. He has spoken out about how difficult it is to learn the language, which is most unusual for a celebrity. Normally, they’re only bothered about whether or not what they say will get them positive attention. He has also spoken about how difficult it is to find good roles for English-speaking actors, especially when they are competing for parts with actors who have a larger international following. It’s not that he minds playing second fiddle to someone who gets all the attention – it’s just that he wants to be the best and that sometimes means competing for roles with other English speakers. He’s almost pathologically driven to achieve, to succeed, and to be the best. Even when he’s not on screen, he seems to be doing or saying something to promote his films. He’s always surrounded by people and cameras. It’s exhausting just watching him. But that’s probably what makes him so great. He’s driven and focused enough to deal with the fame and the responsibilities that come with it. When he’s not working, he’s generally hanging out with his famous friends or relatives (who happen to be really important people in society). So, while you’re upset about not being able to talk to him about trivial things, he is probably busy dealing with more important matters. He might even be working on a screenplay right now, which is why he hasn’t been in touch. It’s a crazy life, but at least we know he’s doing what he wants, when he wants. He doesn’t have to answer to anyone other than himself.

The Triumphs

Speaking of crazy storylines, while we’re on the subject of Batman, it’s probably the most famous and most debated of all his films. Does he really wear glasses in the movie? Does it make sense for the Dark Knight to be looking for kids’ help? Does he have a romantic interest in the Caped Crusader? While these are all good questions, perhaps the most important one to ask is – does it work? Does Batman Live Up To The Hype? While many people were disappointed with the answer, I think it’s safe to say that most fans felt that the film delivered on its promises. Even Robin Williams, one of the biggest stars in the world in 1992, said he considered it his favourite movie. So, even amongst his greatest hits, there is at least one that everyone remembers. While he hasn’t directed a full-length film since 2005’s excellent Water for Elephants, he still occasionally gets cast in smaller, more personal projects. He’s even directed the occasional music video. These days, he mostly makes documentaries about environmental issues and animal welfare. Still, it’s great to see him taking on more and more challenging projects. He never really cared about the limelight, but it seems that he’s found a way to make it work for him. He’s not trying to change the world, he just wants to be the best at whatever he does, which as we’ve established, is incredibly difficult. Anyway, that’s the end of my guide to life, love, and longevity for Robert Pattinson. I hope it helps you in some way. Good luck out there.
