It’s official: Bob Dylan’s youngest daughter, Ella, is to wed the man of her dreams, actor/director/producer Robert Pattinson. The pair got engaged in a romantic London stroll on May 24th, showing off their sapphire blue gemstone and creating a whirlwind of a happy event for their loved ones and friends.
With a total of 10 years between them, the 28-year-old Dylan is arguably the ultimate millennial bride-to-be. An accomplished fashion model, actress and singer, Ella has represented her famous father with grace and style throughout her life. After graduating from university with a degree in marketing, she became a muse to some of the biggest names in fashion and took a starring role in an Oscar-nominated short film. Most recently, she has been featured in memorable music videos for her father and has worked with the fashion house Louis Vuitton.
A Royal Wedding
While the wedding preparations were in full swing, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their grand entrance into Wales to celebrate this historic milestone. Amidst a backdrop of lush green countryside and rolling hills, the newlywed couple kicked off their married life with a romantic stroll through the streets of Cardiff. Escorted by their children, the Duchess showed off her stunning dress as they stopped to sign an autograph for a cheering crowd.
Later that day, the happy couple made their grand entrance into Westminster Abbey for the ceremony. Having tied the knot just last year, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were eager to celebrate with their families and friends. As one of the most iconic buildings in London, the abbey was also the setting for some of the most memorable moments from Kate’s previous wedding to William.
A Classic Engagement
While many celebrity couples have opted for a lavish celebration, opting for a fair isle white wedding, the classic engagement ring has remained a timeless way to commit. And it seems that Robert Pattinson and Ella have continued the trend, choosing an understated yet classic proposal. After their stroll through London, the couple returned to Dylan’s home in Bedford where, according to Hello! magazine, they stayed up all night in a cozy bedroom, admiring each other’s eyes and finishing each other’s sentences. The following day, they held hands as they strolled through the town, eventually making their way to the Registry Office where they were wed. Accessorized with orchids and butterflies, their wedding day was a celebration to remember.
An Inspiration To Others
The engaged couple are no strangers to romance. According to Hello!, the English rose has had a crush on her father’s superstar for years. But Ella has kept her feelings to herself, never revealing her intentions to the world. While her famous parents are notoriously private, they have always made time for their children, particularly Ella. For years, Bob Dylan has watched his little girl grow up, inspiring him to be a better father and husband. Now that she’s grown up, he’s finally asked for her hand in marriage and she’s said yes.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Bob Dylan said, “I think she is the most beautiful creature. I couldn’t help but be enchanted by her the first time I saw her. I wanted to pick her up and take her home with me, and I still do.” In the same interview, he added, “It’s wonderful that she’s found someone she can call her own. She deserves it. She’s been through a lot. She’s a fighter. It’s wonderful to see her find someone who’s going to stick by her in the good times and the bad. Marriage is a challenge, no one should ever have to face that alone.”
A Diamond As Big As The Moon
After months of speculation, the 4.57 carat diamond Doboy (formerly the Carrington Emerald) was finally revealed as the gift for Ella from her father. An impressive feat for a man known for his extravagant spending, especially since he is said to have lost millions of dollars in a series of bad investments. When asked if there was anything else he got her, Bob Dylan replied, “Yeah, I got her the diamond bigger than the moon.”
A Family And Friends Gather
While many stars have opted for small, private weddings, this year’s London summer festivals have seen a surge in positivity, celebrating love and partnership. From outdoor dance parties to secret garden soirees, couples have been able to enjoy their big day surrounded by those they care about.
Whatever your thoughts on the traditional white wedding, there is no denying that there has been a positive shift in public perception towards marriage. According to a recent report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), in 2018 there were 151,200 same-sex civil partnership births in the UK. The number of straight couples who chose to wed has risen by 24% in the last decade, with more than 200,000 ceremonies taking place in 2018.
So, while some may see today’s celebrity weddings as a celebration of corporate power and hectic schedules, for the many couples who chose to wed this year, it can be seen as a celebration of love and partnership.
