While we’re all in the grips of the pandemic, the future of cinema has never been more uncertain. With major studios closing down and independent productions facing an uncertain future, we can’t predict what 2019 will hold for the movie industry. But one thing is for sure: the love for all things Twilight is here to stay.

The Twilighters’ Anthem

One of the biggest movie events of the year was the premiere of the newest installment in the twilight saga, On the Rocks. With its premiere coming during the height of the pandemic, the movie certainly isn’t what anyone expected. But that’s half the fun!

The premiere was packed and the audience was fervent. Celebrities and fans alike gathered in Hollywood on March 26 to watch Bella Swan reunite with her five best friends. Director Andrea Arnold captured the magic of teen angst and celebrity in this cinematic love letter to Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster series. The premiere was a big step forward for the indie director, who previously helmed the Cannes Jury Prize-winning Fish Tank (2011).

A Moment To Reflect

While we’re all still in the midst of the pandemic, this is also a moment for the movie industry to reflect on what went before. In the last few months, we’ve lost some amazing talents who will be greatly missed. And while we can’t bring them back, we can honor their legacy and work to make the world a better place through cinema. One such person is Henry Joost, who died in March. He was a truly unique voice in cinematic history and will be dearly missed.

In April, cinematic luminaries gathered in London for the UK premiere of The Lighthouse, the story of a young boy’s doomed quest for love. The film was hailed as a masterpiece and marked the comeback of an indie filmmaker who spent years in exile. While it may be difficult to imagine life without cinema, it’s worth remembering that the world is a much better place because of the films we’ve seen and loved.

Is This The End?

The future of cinema is looking a whole lot brighter than it did a few months ago. More and more people are rediscovering the wonders of cinema and why they love it so much. Indie films are thriving and getting more exposure than ever before. Platforms like online movie libraries and streaming services are making it possible for everyone to have access to the movies they love. It’s an exciting time to be a fan.

The next exciting chapter in the twilight saga will be released in July 2021. We can’t wait to see what James Bond girl Charlie (Dakota Johnson) gets up to next!
