Rumors have been swirling for months that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are back together, though they have continually denied them. On December 31, 2019, the two were spotted on a date night out in New York City. The following day, a source close to the couple shared with Entertainment Tonight that they are ‘’100% back together,’’ while also noting that ‘’it’s a very happy couple. They are very much in love and are looking forward to the future.’’ In an interview that same day, Stewart revealed that the two were ‘’just chilling’’ and ‘’catching up on life.’’ While the on-again, off-again couple didn’t put a date on their reunion, a romantic night out is exactly what’s been needed to bring them back together. That said, their time apart did give them both a chance to mature as individuals and, arguably, as a couple.
Pattinson first came into the spotlight at the age of 16 when he played the part of Peter Parker in the Broadway adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Since then, the English actor has rarely been seen in film studios, choosing instead to focus on his music and acting career. In 2017, Pattinson’s film director fiance, Ben Falchuk, revealed that the actor was committed to strengthening his acting skills and being more selective with his film roles. “[Pattinson] put his heart and soul into that role, and he didn’t want to turn up in a comedy, or a light-hearted movie,” Falchuk said. “He wanted to go for something darker. And I think he definitely got that.”
While Stewart has been in the limelight since she was 16 years old, taking on the role of Annie in the Broadway adaptation of Annie. She has since appeared in various films, notably Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey, and is best known for her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight franchise. Since 2015, Stewart has been engaged to her director husband, Bryan Barber, and has been a committed vegan and animal rights activist. She is also a member of the activist groups Never Again for Animals and Stop Animal Exploitation Now! (S.A.E.N.).
Pattinson and Stewart’s time apart gave them both the chance to mature and develop as individuals while also establishing a stronger connection with each other. As someone who has spent a considerable amount of time away from home, the actress stated in an interview that she had learned to “value every relationship I’ve ever been in, including my family.” She also noted that she had “really focused on [her] own journey” and “what [she] want[s] out of life.”
Pattinson revealed in August 2019 that he had decided to “step away from the limelight” and focus on his music and acting. “I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been supported by my family and friends as I’ve developed as an actor, and I want to continue to grow and develop as a musician and artist,” he said in a statement. “So I’ve decided to take a step back from acting and focus on my craft. I’d like to thank my fans for their continued support.”
The following month, it was announced that Pattinson had reunited with his Good Charlotte bandmates for a new album. The album, titled Everything Has Changed, is set to be released on October 14, and is the follow-up to 2014’s No Control. It will be preceded by the release of the lead single, “Heartbreaker,” on October 6.
Pattinson and Stewart’s separation gave them both a chance to grow and establish stronger bonds with their loved ones. In October 2019, Stewart revealed that their time apart had made her “a better person” and had also brought her “closer to family and friends.” Shortly after, she was spotted visiting her grandparents for Diwali, an annual Hindu festival of lights. Stewart, who is Catholic, is an adopted child and has acknowledged in the past that she was placed in an orphanage as a baby.
Meanwhile, Pattinson was seen spending time with his family in London, though it is unknown whether he has any children or if the separation is due to fertility problems as he has struggled with infertility since 2008. In September 2019, it was reported that Stewart had become a grandmother for the first time after she gave birth to a girl with Down Syndrome. Stewart has spoken openly about her struggle with infertility and announced a fund for people with disabilities to encourage them to “live their best life.”
After years of speculation, it seems that Pattinson and Stewart have finally decided to commit to each other and are slowly but surely rebuilding their relationship. As the saying goes, history isn’t written by the winners, but by the survivors. Hopefully, this time around, the lovebirds will be able to write a new ending to their romance, this time with the blessing of their fans.
