I don’t know about you guys, but I’m totally obsessed with the Harry Potter series! I have all of the books and have seen every movie multiple times. In case you forgot what happened in the movies, here is a refresher:
In the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, we are introduced to a character named Cedric Diggory. He is a classmate of Harry’s and from a rich, famous family. Most people know Cedric as a cheerful, warm person who is good at sports and has a lot of friends. However, we slowly learn that not everything about Cedric is as it seems. He has a dark side that threatens the lives of those around him. In fact, he is responsible for the untimely deaths of several people including one of his classmates. He also seems to have a serious obsession with finding and using legendary magic objects.
Pattinson’s Classic Quotes
While I was watching the movies, I started noticing some interesting quotes from Cedric Diggory’s character. Here are a few of my favorite ones:
“You’ve got brains, beauty, and ambition. Not many people can claim those three things.”
“People talk when they have something interesting to say, but usually they aren’t that witty.”
“I know what you’re thinking. Twenty-one years ago I would’ve said the same thing. Well, things change, don’t they?”
Pattinson’s Classic Looks
Another thing I noticed about the Harry Potter movies is that they used great old-fashioned settings and costumes. Most of the characters wear classic attire that was fashionable in the 1960s and 1970s. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the outfits worn by Cedric Diggory. He looks amazingly stylish and dashing in his classic tuxedo. You would think that someone who is so good-looking would be totally satisfied with how he looks, but no…he has a special craving for self-improvement.
In fact, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is filled with many references to Cedric Diggory and his quest for the perfect look. According to the novels, Diggory struggles with achiness in his chest, an upset stomach, and a distaste for dirt. One of the things that helps him relieve these symptoms is grooming. He feels that by keeping himself clean and well-organized, he will be more attractive to the opposite sex. He even went as far as to have his entire body waxed. This undoubtedly helped him lose some weight, but it also left him with several uncomfortable patches of hair on his arms and legs.
To alleviate his distaste for dirt and improve his overall appearance, Cedric Diggory turns to a life-sized cardboard cutout of himself that he uses as a punching bag. He hits it with a stick every morning and after working out for a while, he feels that he has done a world of good for his physique. He also uses a walking stick with a shark’s head at the end because he enjoys surfing the web and finding pictures of himself. You’ll have to see it to believe it! I think that this scene perfectly embodies the combination of wit and danger that makes up Cedric Diggory.
Diggory’s Obsession With The Dark Arts
I had a lot to comment on about Cedric Diggory, but I’ll stop here because there is so much more. One of the things I love the most about the Harry Potter series is the way the author weaves the magic of the Dark Arts into everyday life. He uses them to help students defend themselves against monsters and to explore the hidden parts of the world. Even the costumes and props for the Dark Arts are fabulous and amazingly detailed. So, to sum things up, not only is Robert Pattinson a brilliant actor, but he is also responsible for some of the best Halloween costumes in movie history!
