One of the most popular celebrity perfumers, Robert Pattinson, has chosen a new scent to represent his love for sport. Launching in 2016, the new range of Dior Sport Colognes is available to buy now and boasts a blend of orange blossom, lemon and fig, which are three of the actor’s favourite fruits. The brand has made quite the name for itself, having created some of the most iconic perfumes in the world – such as ‘Dior Rose Perfume’ and ‘Dior Chance Perfume’ – and now they’ve gone and done it again!
The new range of Dior Sport colognes was first teased at the end of last year when the fragrance was spotted on the set of the upcoming movie ‘Twilight.’ Since then, the scent has been heavily promoted by the brand and has quickly become one of the most-talked-about fragrances of the year. We were lucky enough to be able to try the new scent and speak to the perfumers behind it about how they designed the scent, what it means to be a ‘Dior Sport’ and whether or not we can expect to see more fragrances in the future.
A Blended Fragrance
As the name would suggest, Dior Sport Colognes are designed to be worn while participating in sport. This is a departure from the traditional practice of wearing a perfume to work, where it might possibly be over-powering the wearer. ‘Dior Sport’ therefore aims to comfort the individual wearing it, and enables them to focus on their workout. The perfume is a hybrid of citrus and fruit aromas, accented by wood and a pinch of vanilla, which is featured in almost every single one of the six available variations. Let’s take a closer look at each one.
Dior Sport Colognes
The new Dior Sport Colognes are a range of fragrances designed to represent the ‘love for sport’ of the French luxury goods company. The orange blossom, lemon and fig combination is certainly distinctive, and it will no doubt be a hit with fans of the ‘Twilight’ actor who sported this exact fragrance during filming. Like all of Dior’s scents, ‘Dior Sport’ is offered in both an ‘Eau de Toilette’ and an ‘Eau de Parfum’ format, with the latter being more potent. Both are available to buy online now, with the ‘Eau de Toilette’ costing £60 for 150ml and the ‘Eau de Parfum’ priced at £120 for 100ml.
Dior Rose Colognes
The first of the Dior Sport Colognes is ‘Dior Rose’. Blending the unique and highly-prized ‘Dior Rose’ fragrance with other botanical perfumers such as jasmine, ylang-ylang and lavender, ‘Dior Rose’ is an emblematic fragrance of the luxury goods house. It is one of the most recognisable and popular scents among perfumers, with an incredibly high success rate in evoking dreams of romance and love. ‘Dior Rose’ was first created in 1973 for Christian Dior and is still one of the most popular perfumes in the world, with over 80 million bottles having been sold to date.
Dior Chance Colognes
‘Dior Chance Colognes’ are named after Christian Dior’s children, and aim to represent the spirit of adventure of the children of the House of Dior. As with the other Dior Sport Colognes, ‘Dior Chance’ blends citrus and fruit aromas with wood and a hint of vanilla. A light hearted fragrance, ‘Dior Chance’ was first launched in 2014 and is currently available to buy online for £60 for 150ml and £80 for 200ml.
Dior Noir Colognes
Next we have ‘Dior Noir’, an ode to blackness and elegance, which marries a dark ambiance with an elegant citrus note. ‘Dior Noir’ was launched in 2009 and is available to buy for £105 for 150ml and £125 for 200ml. Its blend of patchouli, cedar wood and leather is a combination of luxurious and sensual, making it a perfect scent for when the wearer wants to embody ‘très chic’ and ‘très elegant.’
Dior La Nuit Colognes
Dior’s ‘La Nuit’ range of perfumes are named after Christian Dior’s residence in the French capital, and aim to evoke the sense of elegance that the designer craves. The fragrance continues the house’s tradition of blending citrus and fruit aromas with a woody base. While the name may suggest something ‘secret’ and ‘spooky’, ‘Dior La Nuit’ actually represents an elegant and romantic scent ideal for women. Available to buy for £140 for 150ml and £175 for 200ml, perfumers have described ‘Dior La Nuit’ as “fresh and zingy,” “light and radiant,” and “a real summer scent.”
Dior Phare Colognes
‘Dior Phare Colognes’ are named after Christian Dior’s residence in Phare, France, and represent the elegance and panache of the designer’s travels. The fragrance is an ode to exoticism featuring notes of orange blossom, lemon and fig, accented by a touch of spicy pepper. ‘Dior Phare’ was first launched in 2016 and is available to buy now for £235 for 150ml and £275 for 200ml. The French design house has described the scent as “citrus-pepper,” “cool and zesty,” and “spicy, tangy and fresh.”
Dior Solstice Colognes
Finally, we come to ‘Dior Solstice’, a collaboration between perfumers Nicholas J. Bongard and Olivier Richomme. The Solstice range is the culmination of Bongard’s travels to the far corners of France and the world to find tropical and sub-tropical plants that he was able to reimagine in a fragrance. The result is a divine fragrance that marries the woodiness of the tropics with the citrus exuberance of the Mediterranean. ‘Dior Solstice’ was first launched in 2006 and is now available to buy for £290 for 150ml and £350 for 200ml. Perfumers have spoken of its “citrus top notes,” “warm and woody base,” and ultimate ability to create “a sense of escape.”
As you may have guessed, the essence of a sporty fragrance is in its name. The Dior Sport Colognes are indeed, meant to represent the ‘love for sport’ of the company, however, the perfumers behind them want us to see this as an expression of their respect for the game, as well as their admiration for the bodies that play it.
