While on the set of the Twilight movie series in early 2012, Robert Pattinson became one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. And he didn’t waste any time making the most of it. The British actor, known for his crazy antics and romantic escapades, had relationships with Sofia Coppola, Juliette Lewis, and now, apparently, he’s moved on to the next big thing. But was it just a publicity stunt?

Since the beginning of the year, the 28-year-old actor has been dating Kristen Stewart, a 25-year-old actress who made her fame playing the part of Bella Swan in Twilight. The couple have been incredibly active on social media, appearing on countless talk shows and hosting events together. But did Robert and Kristen really date?

When Did They Begin Dating?

According to a report in the British tabloid The Sun, the couple began seeing each other in 2013 and dated for about a month before breaking up.

The publication claimed it watched “closely” as the couple began seeing each other again in April 2014 and noted that they had been “secretly dating for months.”

They kept their relationship a secret from the public for a while, but in November 2014 Robert opened up about their romance. In a Vanity Fair cover story, he shared that he and Kristen had “a really beautiful friendship, but it just grew into something more” and that they have “a romantic relationship.”

Have They Been Actively Dating?

Well, since we’re talking about publicity stunts, let’s take a look at some of the evidence. On November 20, 2014, Robert released an “unofficial” holiday greeting to his fans, writing, “Hey, guys. Just wanted to let you know that I’ve been dating Kristen Stewart. You may know her from the Twilight movies or her work with Woody Allen on Let’s Talk About Woody Allen. Anyway, she’s a lovely person, and I hope you’ll all be happy for me.”

On December 3, 2014, almost a month after Robert’s admission, Kristen announced that they were engaged.

Romantic Proposal

Although he waited until November to make the proposal, Robert did manage to work something unique and romantic into his proposal. According to E! News, he planned to pop the question after filming wrapped on The Guardians of the Galaxy, but because of the Christmas holidays, the proposal was pushed back.

The actor and director proposed in an outdoor chapel during a sunset ceremony, with the blessing of his family and friends. The romantic setting added an unexpected touch to the proposal.

According to E!, the couple plan on getting married in the spring, with an exact date yet to be determined.

Sober/Dress/Casual

We’ve seen Robert wear a wedding band on the red carpet, but has he ever really been married? Well, sort of. Back in 2014, he revealed that he had married the make-up artist for the Twilight movies in a private ceremony in November 2013. The couple had met while working on the first Twilight movie, and after getting engaged, they tied the knot at a Los Angeles County Clerk’s office in a small private ceremony.

The wedding reception was attended by close friends and family, and the event was covered by E! News. The newlyweds shared plenty of sweet moments on social media following the ceremony. Just last week, Robert shared a selfie on Instagram, writing, “Gosh, it’s been a while. Wanted to share an intimate moment with you all today. So happy to be able to do this. Love you guys.”

It’s interesting to note that throughout their dating history, Robert and Kristen have largely stuck to conventional celebrity couple stereotypes. On multiple occasions, the actress has opened up about her dislike for Hollywood, saying that she wants to pursue an acting career in the UK and avoid the limelight. It seems that the more traditional she stays, the more attention she gets. For example, the more casual she wears, the more she’s labeled a fashion icon.

Pets Are WILD About Them

This past summer, Rob was pictured with a dog, named Boo, sitting alongside him on the set of The Batman. It was such an adorable picture that it went viral. Since then, the two have been inseparable, showing off their furry friend on multiple occasions. On one Instagram post in August 2014, Robert wrote, “Best day of the year so far. Just got back from shooting the new Batman movie with @kristenstewart and our dog @boo! Such a beautiful day!! Thank you @netfilmmusic for the amazing track! #pettsscared.”

What do you think their future holds? Are they really dating or was this all just a publicity stunt?
