Just about a month ago, it was announced that Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs would be joining forces for a new song titled “Falling.” The singer revealed that the two had been planning to work together for a while and hoped that the song would be a reflection of their chemistry.
The song premiered last month at the 2020 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California. Since then, it’s been one of the highlights of Pattinson’s set lists for concerts in Europe and the U.S. In an interview with Billboard last month, Pattinson said that “Falling” is “the most personal song [he’s] ever written.”
According to the singer, the song is about his ex-girlfriend Lizzy Goodman, with whom he had a one-year relationship in 2019. He described their breakup as “sad” and “heartbreaking” but said that he is grateful for everything they shared together. “I think about her every day,” he said. “I miss her. But I also think about our year together and all the crazy things that happened. I think about that more than anything.”
Pattinson and Twigs first met while filming the 2020 movie The Lost City, which is set in the early 20th century and based on the 1924 novella “The Lost City” by H.P. Lovecraft. The two worked on the movie for about a month, with Twigs’ character being a magician who befriends and helps a young man named Gilman Rose (Pattinson), who is searching for his father’s tomb. The role was a small one, but it was important to get the pair’s chemistry right. Twigs said that while she and Pattinson did not have a lot of scenes together, they were both able to develop a connection, which made their collaborations easier. “We bonded really easily,” she said. “It was just a natural connection. ‘Falling’ — An Overview

“I’ve always been the sort of person to bounce ideas off, and [‘Falling’ is] definitely a result of that,” he said. “I’ve always had this thing where I feel like I can write a song about anything. It doesn’t have to be personal. I think it’s the most personal song that I’ve ever written, but I also think that it’s one of the most universal.”
Complex Relationship History
Pattinson dated actress Emma Stone for five years before calling it quits in 2019. The two met on the set of the 2006 film 2546, which she had also been working on.
