Body building is a hobby that many people around the world enjoy. Seeing the progress of a bodybuilding workout routine, or watching an inspiring event such as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic, can really help motivate someone to get into shape.
Sometimes, however, that hobby can become a bit too much. It can create a sort of vicious cycle, where the person working out gets so absorbed in the process that they forget about the reason they were exercising in the first place.
This was certainly the case for Hollywood actor Christian Bale. After years of heavy drinking and drug use, which almost destroyed his career, Bale became obsessed with fitness and worked hard to get back on track.
It was initially difficult for Bale to find the motivation to work out after such a long hiatus from the sport. In fact, he said that he had ‘lost the will’ to exercise. Not anymore. Thanks to a combination of therapy, dieting and supplementation, Bale was eventually able to return to his previous athletic level. He credits the transformation to a number of reasons, including his continued immersion in the sport as well as meeting the right people.
While there are many upsides to getting back into shape, there are also a number of risks that come with it. One of the major ones is the fact that your body will no longer tolerate being in the same weight class as people with much higher body fat percentages. In other words, if you want to lose weight, you will have to drop down a weight class or two. This can be difficult if you’re not used to being in smaller groups.
This was certainly the case for Hollywood actor Robert Pattinson. After years of struggling with addiction, the Lost in Translation starlet dropped down a weight class to play the part of Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga. The role was originally meant for a much bigger star, but Pattinson surprised everyone by proving he was more than capable of playing the part.
Being in the right environment is also key to anyone’s athletic success. The right people can help provide the motivation and support you need to reach your full potential. This was certainly the case for tennis player Boris Becker. After struggling with alcohol and drug addiction for years, Becker decided to turn his life around and dedicated himself to tennis and fitness. He eventually went on to become one of the world’s greatest tennis players. He credits his transformation to a number of reasons, including the fact that he moved to Switzerland, where he could fully immerse himself in the sport. Not only that, but he also worked with the best coaches and adopted a vegan diet.
There are many different approaches that can be used to get into shape. Not all of them will work for every individual, but different things work for different people. One thing that will help everyone, however, is dedication and hard work. You may need to try a few different things to find what works best for you, but you’ll eventually find the right combination for your own personal fitness journey.
