The English actor and royal favorite, Charlie Pattinson, has been in the limelight for several years. He’s best known for his role as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter series of movies and television shows, and for a short-lived sitcom about a gay couple and their children, The Family Pattinson. He was also the host of Make Some Money, a CNBC-TV series that followed him as he traveled around the world solving problems, searching for shortcuts, and trying to make a few extra bucks. The 57-year-old has never been one to shy away from a role that will put his acting skills to the test, and he’s now taking on one of the most significant parts in Disney Plus history as the adult film star, Olivia Mignonette in The Bonds. The newcomer recently chatted with ClothesFAQ about her process of adapting to Hollywood and about what it’s like to play a real-life character in a pornographic film.
The Family Pattinson
On The Family Pattinson, which premiered in 2016, Charlie portrayed the father of two boys, Zak and Hank. The show focused on the brothers’ middle-school years and their interactions with their father, who they nicknamed “Popcorn.” The sitcom poked fun at the actor’s fame and enviable lifestyle, with scenes involving the boys and their father going into town, meeting new people, and participating in teen behaviors. The show followed a fairly conventional story line and had a fairly typical setup; a few years ago, Inside Porn TV called it a “boring sitcom.”
The actor’s children, particularly daughter Vanessa, were also featured regularly on social media, sharing snaps of themselves with Charlie. The Family Pattinson was a welcome respite from the high school comedy The Edge of Good Taste that had premiered the year before. While the later show focused on Vanessa’s formal education and the antics of her student body, The Family Pattinson focuses on Vanessa’s middle school years and her relationship with her father.
Despite its short run, The Family Pattinson was well-received and awarded “Best TV Show” and “Best Actor” in a comedy series at the 2017 Gold Masters Awards. The show scored a 98% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and its premiere was followed by a buzz on social media. Celebrities including RuPaul and Carli Lim tweeted about the show, and Gwyneth Paltrow even joined the discussion, praising Charlie for being a role model for his children.
Harry Potter Entertainment
The English actor has been a staple in the Harry Potter world for 15 years, beginning with his role as wizard Albus Dumbledore in the first film in 2010. Since then, Charlie has portrayed the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the movie series, television shows, and themed parties. In addition to his work in the Potterverse, Charlie has also had prominent roles in The Twilight Series as Bree’s (Mia Wasikowska) father, Charlie Twins, and in The Hunger Games Film Suicide, where he appeared with Jennifer Lawrence in a bisexual romantic comedy. In 2020, he’ll portray the great wizard Ezra Kreisler in J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Fiction, an adaptation of her 1995 novel, The Letters from Harry Potter. In July 2020, Charlie embarked on the Harry Potter Tour with an exclusive look at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during his tour. The 31-day tour, which began in London, England, and will continue in other cities across the world, will be a goldmine for those interested in the History of Magic in the Harry Potter world. Book signings, Q&A sessions, and concerts are just some of the events that will take place during the tour. You can also find out more on the official website, www.harrypottertour.com. Other Projects
Charlie’s other notable projects include The Edge of Good Taste, Trollied, and The Handmaid’s Tale. The last of these was a TV movie based on the bestselling 1996 bestseller, The Handmaid’s Tale: Origins of Domesticity, by Marjorie Merriweather Goodchild, about the subjugation of women and the fall of the patriarchal society. He also voiced the main antagonist, Serilda Swineheart, in the video game, Witcher 3.
On the big screen, Charlie has portrayed a bunch of characters ranging from a villainous troll in Trollied to a comic book shop owner addicted to money in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Most recently, it was reported that Charlie has been cast as the adult film star, Olivia Mignonette, in The Bonds, a romantic comedy set in Hollywood in the late 1990s. The new film will focus on how the industry rebranded its actresses whilst keeping the main character bisexual. The title The Bonds is a reference to Olivia’s role as a fixer for famous actors (like James Bond) whilst they work on their screenplays. Bond’s affair with her, Ralph Fiennes, leads to a scandal that exposes her true identity. The Bonds will be released in December 2021.
When asked about the most difficult movie to act in that he’s ever been part of, Charlie responded, “It’s a difficult question. I belonged to a great filmmaking family for most of my career, and I developed a sense of duty to the trade. Nowadays, I’d say that The Bonds is the most difficult movie that I’ve ever acted in because it’s the most realistic. You’ve got to hand it to Brian De Palma for pulling this one off. It’s so creepy being part of a movie like that because it’s such a close look at the business of making adult films.”
The 57-year-old actor has also played a number of character bits in videos and online games via the use of avatars and machinary tools. As a self-professed gamer, Charlie often joins the online discussion of his favorite titles and players, giving his views on the latest video games and their plot lines.
