It is not often that a royal visit to a small country generates such global interest. But France has witnessed an uncommon sight as the King of Great Britain, Robert Pattinson, graced the country with his presence. The actor arrived in the country on May 12th with his wife, Emily Blunt, and spent over a week visiting historical sites in the region. While there, he sported a camisa, a shirt with a collar that was first worn by Italian artists in the early sixteenth century. It is fair to say that the famous movie star’s visit has not gone unnoticed.

We were fortunate enough to have a short interview with Mr. Pattinson before he departed from the country. During our talk, he spoke about his passion for French culture, his fashion choices, and more. Here is what he had to say.

What is your favorite French fashion designer?

I love the fact that they mix high fashion with utilitarian items such as raincoats and umbrellas. There is also something really chic about a luxury good being used for practical purposes. For example, the trench coat turned out to be a really useful item during World War I, so it was only a matter of time before designers began incorporating it into their designs. It was first worn by men in Paris during the 1920s and since then it has not gone out of style.

Have you been exploring the French culture?

I have been studying the French culture with a little French tutor, and I think it will be a really cool to be able to speak the language soon. The city of Paris is something really unique. It has had this extraordinary impact on the world, especially modern art and fashion. The architecture is fantastic, the food is great, and the people are generally lovely. It’s a city that I’ve always wanted to visit.

Do you own any French fashion item from the past?

No, I’ve never owned any fashion item from France, but I do own a fur stole that was designed by Christian Dior. I also have a really beautiful dress that was designed by Lanvin, but I’ve never worn it because I’ve never felt comfortable in it. I’ve always felt that I wasn’t wearing the right size so it never felt right.

Will you be traveling to different parts of France or staying in one place?

We are going to be in one place for the most part. However, there is a little villa in the south of France that I’ve found on Airbnb. It’s in a spectacular position, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. So far, we’ve only been to Paris and it was absolutely splendid. We are planning to visit other parts of France as well.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I just want to say how much I am looking forward to meeting my French fans! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see that I have posted a few photos of myself wearing the camisa. I am certainly looking forward to talking to as many people as possible and answering any questions they might have about England and about my time there. The French are really wonderful people and I am honored to be representing Great Britain.
