Robert Pattinson’s back! The actor and singer is finally showing off his muscled arms and legs in a swimsuit in the latest issue of GQ magazine. In the November 2013 issue of GQ, fans of the Twilight Saga will recognize Pattinson’s character, Edward Cullen, in a sexy swimsuit clad in a white dress shirt and black pants. He is standing by a water fountain and looking at himself in the mirror…um, ‘reading’ a beautiful book. So it seems Edward has finally found his way back to reading, as he glances between the pages of the novel. I mean, the look on his face is priceless. It is as if he has been reading the same page for an hour now and is just waiting for the words to come alive in front of him. Finally, Edward begins to read, and the camera zooms in for a close-up of his handsome face. The juxtaposition of these two images – Edward as the reserved, book-reading gentleman, and Pattinson as the shirtless, arms-bearing hunk – perfectly encapsulates the charm of a Twilight movie.
It has been almost four years since Edward Cullen began appearing in the Twilight movie series. The actor has since appeared in other movies and on television, but his days of shirtless swimsuit scenes are over. He has been keeping his arms and legs well-covered since starring in the Twilight movie series.
In 2011, Edward played the piano for his fans at the O2 Arena in London. A few years earlier, he gave fans a glimpse of his sculpted chest in a scene from the film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (2005). Edward does have a rather famous tattoo, a sunflower on his right biceps, that he got after playing Lord Byron in the 2005 movie, A Tale of Two Cities. In the 2007 film, The Holiday, fans saw Edward in a sexy Santa Claus outfit with a small snowflake tattoo on his upper right arm. He also has a small Chinese character on the back of his right hand in the same film.
While we wait for Edward to return to our bookshelves, let’s take a look at the handsome actor who is now the proud owner of a six-pack. This is the same actor who famously played the piano for his fans in 2011 and who graced the covers of numerous magazines and newspapers in 2013.
Back in 2009, before he became the hunk stud of our dreams, Robert Pattinson played a completely different kind of role. In the film adaptation of Water for Elephants (2011), he sports an American Flag tattoo on his chest. While this may not seem like the most traditional choice for an actor, the actor explained that he did it to represent the USO, the United Service Organizations, which was started during World War II and provides support to military personnel and their families. Robert Pattinson’s character, Jacob, is an American ex-pat living in China. He is one of the main protagonists of the film, and the tattoo symbolizes his pride in being an American.
In early 2013, we got to see a lot more of Pattinson, and he did not disappoint. The actor graced the cover of numerous magazines and newspapers, including GQ. In June 2013, he was declared the sexiest man alive by Esquire magazine. He graced the cover of GQ magazine in November 2013, and his photo on that cover is said to be the best dressed of any man in the history of the publication.
Even now, that is a bold statement, but one that is definitely true. In the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby (2013), Robert Pattinson plays the part of Jay Gatsby, a wealthy and handsome man who lives in the ‘20s. He is also one of the main characters in the film. Gatsby’s charm, wit, and style have made him the stuff of legend. The character is defined in part by his extravagant parties, his gorgeous Daisy Buchanan, and his exquisite taste in shirts.
In the film, Daisy (played by Elizabeth Taylor) gives Jay Gatsby her hand in marriage after watching him perform a daring stunt. In real life, the star was married to the millionaire for a little less than a year before his death in March 2009. The couple had two children together: a daughter and a son. Following his passing, Taylor wrote an op-ed for The New York Times about her late husband. In her piece, written just days after his death, the film star wrote, “…the best thing about Jay was his sense of humor. Even in his most difficult moments, he would find something to laugh at.” We can still see that sense of humor on Taylor’s face in the photos that she has chosen to share of her late husband. In one of those photos, taken just hours before he died, Jay Gatsby is seen smiling broadly, a twinkle in his eye. That is the beauty of having an entertainer for a husband. You never know what he is going to say or do next. It is like living with a movie star.
This is a far cry from the reserved, book-loving Edward Cullen we know and love from the Twilight movies. What is your thoughts on this reversal of fortune for our favorite Twi-Hard, Edward? Sound off in the comments section below.
