I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but the newest addition to the DC Comics Universe is Batman v Superman: The Movie.
It’s the culmination of arguably the biggest superhero rivalry ever. And let’s be honest, we’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. We all knew that one day the two greatest heroes would have to face off. It seems like it was just a matter of time before Batman and Superman would come together to beat the common enemy. Well, the time has finally arrived.
The latest installment in the DC Cinematic Universe will no doubt become one of the biggest superhero movies of this year. And here’s the thing: It’s not just any ol’ superhero movie. This is the Marvel and DC Comics crossover event that we’ve all been waiting for. A superman movie starring Batman? Imagine that. A batman movie that actually featured scenes with Superman? Amazing. And what about the fanservice? You’ll just have to see for yourself.
An Unexpected Crossover
What makes Batman v Superman: The Movie so special is that it’s not just your standard superhero movie. It features some pretty incredible twists and turns that you might not see coming. Granted, it’s a bit of a cheat to call it a “standard” superhero movie. The fact is, this is a movie that you might not see coming. At least, not at first. And that’s what makes it so special.
To start things off, the most obvious and probably the most shocking twist of all is that this is, in fact, a Superman movie. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Superman movie and, to be honest, this one is pretty boring. Granted, it doesn’t feature any of the iconic action sequences that we’ve all come to expect from a Man of Steel movie. Instead, we get lots of long, boring moments of Superman struggling to save the world. Ugh.
It almost feels like the filmmakers were scared that if we saw too much action, people would realize that it wasn’t actually a superman movie at all. But that’s not really the case. This is an incredibly entertaining film that just so happens to star the most iconic superhero of all time. And it wouldn’t be a surprise if many of us didn’t guess what the final act was going to be. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to see the Man of Steel battle his friend and archenemy?
A More In-depth Look At Batman’s World
One significant aspect of Batman v Superman: The Movie that really sets it apart from other superhero movies is the fact that it gives us a more in-depth look at Batman’s world. This is especially impressive since a large portion of the film takes place in Metropolis, which is usually the focal point of any typical superhero movie.
For years, there’s been one fundamental rule in the superhero universe: When a superteam is formed, the person who’s been bitten by a radioactive spider must wear a mask. It’s a rule that’s been in place since the very first live-action superhero movie, which of course, included Spiderman. But now, we get to see a bit more about what happened before that fateful day. And it’s quite the story.
It all started with the creation of the Batman. Ben Affleck gives a fantastic performance as the Dark Knight and even manages to sell his angst rather well. It’s easy to see why he was chosen to play Batman. Not only is he an accomplished actor, but he also has a history with comic books. He grew up reading them and even designed some of the costumes for the movie. Plus, he’s British, which helps. Haha.
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Batman movie and it’s amazing to see how much he’s changed. Gone is the glowering, moody billionaire who fights organized crime. He’s now a crime solver who fights for truth and justice. It’s an incredibly interesting take on the character and it shows just how far the world of comic books has come. While the rest of the world was still figuring out what a superhero was, some of us were already making our way through alternative universes trying to catch criminals.
A Few Too Many Cameos
Another awesome aspect of Batman v Superman: The Movie is that it’s stuffed full of cameos. It almost feels like they threw everything and the kitchen sink at the characters, which is a pretty great feat, considering how many cameos there are. It really is an amazing feat of casting, considering how many iconic characters are in this movie.
There are plenty of surprises in store for fans of the Spiderman and Batman franchises. The fact that so many big stars are in this movie should hold you over until the next Spiderman movie. Or, you know, until we get our own shared universe.
A Bit Too Many Characters
There are also quite a few characters in Batman v Superman: The Movie who don’t serve too much purpose. Lex Luthor is a fantastic villain who, as far as we know, has never been defeated. Sure, he’s always managed to escape, but that’s mainly because he’s always managed to have someone else do his dirty work for him. Why does he need to show up for this particular story? Why does he need to steal the spotlight from Superman? This is a question that’s been bothering me since the beginning. Lex Luthor is undoubtedly one of the most complex and interesting characters in comics. Sadly, he’s one of the most useless characters in the entire MCU.
Speaking of useless characters, here’s another one that I could do without. Aquaman is in this movie, which means that he probably has something to do with the plot. Or, at least, he appears to have something to do with the plot. I have no idea why he’s here. I mean, aside from the obvious Batman/Superman rivalry, which is something that we’ve seen countless times before. It’s not as if there’s some sort of world conflict that Aquaman can help with. It just feels like they shoved him in for no reason at all.
Some Incredible Scenes
Finally, let’s talk about the parts of the movie that were truly amazing. Batman v Superman: The Movie is a feast of violence and chaos. But in a good way. Even people who have never read a single word about superheroes will no doubt be able to appreciate the sheer amount of effort that went into creating these breathtaking battle scenes. I mean, just look at that kick. Or that punch. Or that swing. Or that… um… kick.
It would be irresponsible to not mention that these scenes were masterful demonstrations of practical effects. I’ve always been a bit of a spoilsport when it comes to watching superhero movies. For years, I’ve been able to appreciate the artistry of computer-generated imagery (CGI). But after seeing some of the practical effects in this film, I must say that I’ve been converted completely. It’s incredible how much these effects add to the movie and make a scene more realistic. It’s like seeing a completely different movie.
If you’ve never been a fan of superhero movies, then I have some good news for you. You’re in for a treat. Not only is this the biggest superhero movie to date, but it also happens to be one of the best movies of the year. If you’re a fan of Batman and/or Superman, then you’ll no doubt have a blast watching this movie. There are lots of exciting developments ahead for the DC Comics Universe. This is going to be a movie that defines the future of superhero movies as we know them.
