Arguably one of the biggest movies of all time is about to be released. The hype is real. After more than 70 years since its predecessor was released, it’s time for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to hit theaters.

The film will bring together two of the most popular superheroes on the planet. After the colossal failure that was Justice League, it’ll be interesting to see how the world’s biggest movie theatre chains will greet the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight when they clash on the big screen for the first time.

There are plenty of questions about the new Batman. Here’s what we know.

Does He Have A Family?

Yes. Unfortunately, the Dark Knight doesn’t have any parental figures around to guide him on the right path. Let’s just say that as far as comic book characters go, he’s probably the least conventional one out there. Nevertheless, he will have two childhood friends who will serve as his allies: Rachel Dawes (played by Kelly Macdonald) and Jim Gordon (played by Danny DeVito). The film will expand on the backstory of these three characters. However, it won’t be a chronological tale, but rather a flash-forward to a point in time where they’re face-to-face with their greatest challenges yet. We’ll learn more about their relationship in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it looks like they’ve known each other since they were little kids. They’ll be connected for life.

What’s He Like As A Person?

As I mentioned above, Batman doesn’t have a traditional family to guide him on the right path. Furthermore, the character didn’t get along with any of his predecessors. However, the Man of Steel has Wayne Manor to call home (even if it is a decommissioned mansion) and Martha Kent (played by Kiera Knightley) who may be the closest thing he has to family. It’s likely that Martha will serve as a mother figure for both Clark Kent (played by Henry Cavill) and Bruce Wayne (played by Ben Affleck) in the movie. There are a lot of questions about how exactly the two characters will get along. We know that they’ll serve as the film’s primary antagonists, which raises an interesting question: could Martha Kent be the second most powerful superheroine in the world?

What Are His Superpowers?

Batman’s superpower is undoubtedly his keen mind. Even though he doesn’t have any traditional superpowers, it seems like he’s always one step ahead of the bad guys. He will use his brains to figure out a way to beat them. Sometimes he can even figure out complex puzzles to assist with his intelligence.

What’s important to realize is that Batman is not a superhero. In the comics, he’s often called the “world’s greatest detective.” This is because he uses his extraordinary intelligence to pursue criminal masterminds by solving their mysteries. Even though his enemies may try to disguise themselves as regular people, Batman will always be able to discover their true identities. It’s why he’s considered “the ultimate detective.”

That being said, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t need some help. As I mentioned above, he doesn’t have any family or friends to guide him. In the comics, Batman has relied on an “honor code” to keep him on the right path. Basically, he won’t work with criminals or people who take advantage of others.

Why Is He The Dark Knight?

There are several reasons why Batman is considered “the Dark Knight.” To begin with, the character doesn’t wear a mask. Ever since his debut, Bruce Wayne has been photographed wearing a mask in order to hide his identity. However, thanks to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we’ll learn that he has no intention of hiding. He’s actually proud of who he is and what he stands for. As a result, he doesn’t wear a mask because he feels like it helps hide his identity. Instead, he dons his “bat-mask” as a symbol of defiance. Furthermore, his home is located in what appears to be a bat-shaped mansion. Not only does it have a bat motif all over it, but the owner also seems to be a massive proponent of Batman’s methods. From what we’ve seen of the movie’s marketing, it seems like the Nolan Batman will be quite the opposite of the traditional Batman. He’s no friend of the law enforcement or the judiciary. In fact, he’ll take great pleasure in going around and beating up crooked cops. Nevertheless, he does have a good side too. He’s just as passionate about doing the right thing as he is about being famous. For example, in the comics, Batman has fought for social justice and against discrimination. He’s also been known to assist the police in their investigations. Although, he’ll still use his intellect to find the criminals in his jurisdiction, sometimes he’ll have to rely on physical strength.

What If Anything Happens To Him?

Batman, like all of the characters in this list, is very much a product of the ‘60s and ‘70s. For decades, he existed in a vacuum. Since his death in 1966, there have been several attempts at reviving Batman. The most popular one seems to be Christopher Nolan’s Batman. The director decided to bring the character back in a big way. Since then, several movies and TV shows have been based on the character. Even if nothing catastrophic happens to Wayne Manor from this point forward, he’ll have lots of adventures. It will be interesting to see how the character’s next 70 years play out.
