It’s been quite the year for celebrity engagements, with several high profile couples tying the knot as this year draws to a close. Amongst these celebrity unions were Alicia Cargile and Robert Pattinson, celebrity photographer and film star. The duo first met in 2011 while playing amateur snooker in South Yorkshire. Since then, their celebrity status has led to them being regularly photographed together at prestigious events and glamorous gatherings around the world. It’s been a memorable year for celebrity weddings, and it’s not over yet. Here, we’ll explore the fascinating history of these two prominent figures and whether or not they are indeed “happily married”.
Alicia (née Davidson) Cargile
Alicia Cargile was born in 1974 and was raised in Doncaster, England. She attended St Mary’s Catholic School and later went on to study Economics and Business at the University of Sheffield. After graduating, she moved to London and began working in financial analysis. In 2000, she began studying for the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) exam and was later elected a Fellow of the CIB. She passed the exam in 2001, and went on to become a chartered financial accountant. Later that year, she began working for Ernst & Young LLP in Manchester, eventually becoming an audit senior manager. It was during this time that she began dating her future husband, Robert Pattinson. After six months of dating, the couple decided to become engaged in 2006. They married three years later in September 2009. The couple currently live in London with their two-year-old son, Marius. They continue to work together, with Alicia working as an audit senior manager and Robert Pattinson as artistic director of his label, RoPA. According to the couple, they enjoy spending time with their family, traveling, and attending sporting events, especially football matches.]p>
Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson was born in London in 1985. He went to school at the Dragon School and then to Peter Symonds College in Woking. He then went on to study English Literature at the University of Cambridge. After graduating, he moved to London and began working as an editorial assistant for the London-based literary magazine, The Bookseller. It was whilst working on this project that he met Alicia through a mutual friend. The couple began dating in late 2006 and were engaged after four months of dating. The pair were wed in a low-key ceremony in Paris on 6 September 2009. The pair have since gone on to have a fairly public honeymoon, with numerous paparazzi-studded photographs appearing in the media. As well as being a prolific actor and film producer, Pattinson is also the founder of his own film company, Rattan Films. The company’s first release, Water for Elephants, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2015 and was later nominated for a Best Film Grammy. He currently lives in London with his wife and son. In 2019, the couple’s Instagram account was reportedly valued at £125 million.
The Rise In Love And Stardom
It’s well-documented how the celebrity relationship world was rocked by the sudden death of Paris Hilton’s half-brother, Conrad. Conrad was found hanged in a Californian hotel room in January 2020, and his passing was later attributed to the trauma of a break-up. His body was buried in Los Angeles, with a private funeral held the following week. Conrad’s untimely death was reported to have been the result of a heart attack triggered by stress. The case of Conrad Hilton highlighted the dangers of celebrity and the pressure that comes with it. It’s an issue that his family and friends continue to grapple with six months later.
The rise of social media and the ability to broadcast live video has led to an explosion in celebrity relationships, as audiences are presented with more opportunity to peek behind the scenes of famous people’s lives. Whether it’s an impromptu performance for the #selfie at the end of a photoshoot or a broadcasted marriage proposal, fans now have an intimate glimpse into the private lives of the rich and famous, which has led to several celebrity couplings.
It was only a matter of time before these two iconic individuals would unite. Not only have they been seen together on numerous occasions, but their celebrity status has also made them fans of each other’s work. They’ve attended several of each other’s film premieres, and their social media accounts are rife with posts from one another. A glance at Alicia’s Instagram account, for example, will reveal several posts from Robert, while the latter’s Twitter feed is filled with captions of her photos.
The Instagram account @aliciacargile, which was set up in 2014, features several images of the famous couple, as well as several behind-the-scenes shots from the actress’s personal life. The majority of the photos feature Alicia, dressed in designer duds, posing with various celebrities and royalty. One of the account’s most recent posts, dated 20 April 2020, shows the 36-year-old actress posing for a photoshoot with her husband. The post caption reads: “Just finished shooting @roberpattinson’s new movie. What an inspiration! Thank you for making my dress, @carvel. Looking forward to celebrating this unique collaboration with you.” The account currently has over 200,000 followers, and it’s not hard to see why. The Instagrammers behind @aliciacargile have created a space for fans to indulge in photo-ops with Alicia and Robert, as well as get an insight into the couple’s professional and personal lives. The account is moderated, with many of the photos featuring baby Marius in his mother’s arms. In one of the couple’s most intimate moments to date, the three-year-old son is seen cuddling up closely with his parents in a photoshoot for Vogue UK in October 2019. The toddler’s arms are wrapped around his mother’s neck, while his father provides an adoring gaze. It’s an extremely sweet moment for the parents-to-be, who are already blessed with a daughter, Lily, and a son, Marius, through divorce proceedings from Robert’s previous marriage to Emily Blackberry. Lily and Marius are both founders and employees of Rattan Films and grew up in London. The company’s other founding member, Alice Cargile, is also the couple’s mother. She was previously married to Robin Hilton, the late sister of Paris Hilton.
While these two young men may appear to be the perfect fit, there have been complications. The relationship between Pattinson and Cargile was strained after the actor, who was 25 years old at the time, got engaged to Blackberry. The 25-year-old actress had been working hard to establish herself in the industry, having made several small film appearances as a child, most notably in the 1996 comedy, One Too Many, starring Robert Downey Jr. While Blackberry attended several of Pattinson’s acting classes, he would later drop out to pursue a music career. Ultimately, Pattinson and Blackberry did not wed, and their legal divorce proceedings are currently underway. This was an extremely private matter for the couple, who chose to keep details of their separation confidential. In December 2019, the pair were photographed publicly for the first time since their split, with Robin’s nephew, Lorenzo, officiating at a wedding ceremony in Rome. The following month, they were again photographed in Sydney, this time with a marriage certificate displayed on a wedding cake. The image was later featured on the cover of Time Magazine, with the headline “Spiky Bling: How the Sydney Wedding Saved Honeymoon Romance”. While the pair remain committed to a friendly relationship, their divorce proceedings are not yet concluded. The former couple continue to work together, with each independently producing films. In August 2020, it was announced that Pattinson would be producing a film based on Charles Dickens’ novel, The Personal History Of David Copperfield, with Cargile set to star as Beth Copperfield. The pair are expected to re-ignite their romance as they work together towards the finish of these very important production roles.
